| Diarrhea and puking What's wrong with my baby? As far as I know, she hasn't gotten into anything. All she had to eat yesterday was her dog food and a small peice of carrot for a treat. Her stools were fine all day until last night she had some bad diarrhea a couple of times before I went to bed, and I woke up at 3 am and had to clean more diarrhea off her butt and my carpet. She continued to get up about every half hour through the night, and again this morning. She also just threw up one time. I'm worried, she's never been like this before. I want to stay here with her so bad but I have to go write a midterm this morning Does anyone know what might be going on?

| There's no way I can miss my midterm this morning, but we do have an appointment tomorrow at the vet for an ear infection. She doesn't seem to be really bothered or anything, she's wagging her tail and being playful still. Right now she hasn't had diarrhea for about two hours. Do you think it might wait until tomorrow or should I try to skip some classes today for it?

| No I think you will be fine untill tomorrow. You just have to make sure she is getting liquids down her so she doesnt dehydrate

| My vet always lets me give Hayley a small amount of pepto, you can check with your vet to see how much ya should give according to her weight. I would try to stop the vomiting and diarrhea, they can dehydrate easlily I will say a prayer for her, keep us posted

| I boil boneless/skinless chicken breast and white rice (adding no seasonings whatsoever). I let it cool. I add half a tsp of salt and a half a tsp of sugar to 1 cup of water (stir until dissolved). Then I break up the little bit of the chicken breast, add a little bit of rice and about 2-3 tablespoons of the water mixture. This cures it EVERY time for me. I do this during 24 hours of feedings. Then I mix a little of the chicken/rice to a little of their kibble the next day and all is well. I do this when the dog acts fine in all other areas. I keep a close eye on them and am ready to see the vet if necessary. Hope your baby is feeling better soon. |

| I just finished my midterm and came home to check on her. I left out three pee pads so she wouldn't go on the carpet, and there was a little bit of diarrhea on the edge of one and nothing on the others. But it's a little weird of her to not even have peed yet today so I'm worried about dehydration now. I just gave her some fresh cold water and I'll be back to check on her again in a couple hours. I've heard about the chicken and rice solution before, but the vet thinks she might have an allergy to chicken. On top of that, she has a sensitive stomach and anytime I feed her anything new she has diarrhea for awhile. I asked my roommate this morning but he said he didn't feed her anything yesterday, and didn't drop anything on the floor that she could have gotten into, and I know I didn't either. She still seems happy though, when I walked in she was wagging her tail, and then she was rolling around on the floor, and now she's sitting in my lap.

| Home for lunch now, and there's been no more diarrhea, but no pee spots either. I tried to get her interested in her water but she only sniffed at it and walked away.

| What do you feed her? Loki was like this as a puppy when he got a new treat and sometimes even when he didn't get anything new - once I switched his food he was OK. MAKE SURE she is drinking. Use an eye dropper or a spoon or something. And if she can't have chicken just feed the rice. Use plain white minute rice - you can even give it to her kind of soggy just to get some extra water in her. Don't give pepto without specifically asking the vet.

| I feed her Medi-Cal Hypoallergenic, it's a Canadian brand only available from vets. I switched her from Eukenuba when she was about 5 or 6 months old due to allergy problems. Usually when she gets a new treat or something she might have diarrhea once or twice, but never for this long. The good news, though, is that I've been home with her now for an hour, there's been no diarrhea since I left earlier today, and she's eating, drinking, and running around again. She made a big pee spot on one of her pads, so I think she maybe was just sleeping and holding it in earlier. I'm going to keep an eye on her for the rest of the day and mention this to the vet tomorrow though. Thanks for all the help!

| It was probably the carrot that caused the problem. Have you given carrots before? I've seen other posts concerning carrots causing vomiting and diarrhea. Maybe some dogs are just sensitive to them because I know people that do feed carrots without problems. |

| Yeah I feed her carrots quite a bit and I have since she was just little. It's never been a problem before. She's never had any problem with any raw veggies before. I don't actually feed her anything but carrots, but she has eaten anything dropped on the floor and this has never happened.

| Well I thought she was better, she was eating and drinking and running around and playing all night. I gave her a bath to clean up her gross behind before the vet visit today, and I woke up this morning to pet her and ended up with diarrhea on my hand. My poor baby. I wonder what the vet will say.

| Just got back from the vet, and Layla's gonna be fine! Our initial reason for going, her ear infection, wasn't as bad as I thought but we got some ear drops for it. I told the vet about her diarrhea and vomiting, so she checked her temperature, which was fine, and she had no abdominal swelling or pain. She gave me an antibiotic, Amoxil, and said it woud clear up any bad bacteria in her tummy and she should be feeling better.
