| Indy's liver shunt surgery is over It's been a horrible day!! Nothing at school went right today, kids were unruly, teachers were jerks. Makes me wonder why I stay! Anyway, I didn't hear from the surgeon until 2:30 so I was stressed about that all day too. The surgeon called and said that everything went well. Indy's liver looks great and he said the other shunt that he did last year is all shut down. But the new shunt was just where the ultrasound doctor said it was. So he took care of that and now we just wait and test to see if his bile acids come down. I have to take him back in 2 weeks and then schedule his first post op bile acid for 6 weeks, and then keep up with them every 8 weeks. At 4 months he needs another ultrasound to check the shunt and make sure it is closing/closed. They do a doppler ultrasound that acutally shows the blood moving through the vessels, pretty cool! I miss my Indy!!! I haven't had any sleep for 3 nights and I'm exhausted! Probably won't sleep tonight either without his little warm body cuddled up next to me. Thanks for the kind words and prayers, Indy and I appreciate our friends at YT! |

| I know this was an awful day for you, but they gave you some good news in the end. Give little River extra hugs and kisses from us. They can never get too many, ya know? I hope you are able to rest tonight, even though he won't be there with you. While I know that living with a recovering puppy and the special care they require - for always - I hope that it is all over for good and he can go ahead and live a healthy life and be the puppy he deserves to be and do the things he loves to do. Thank you for letting us know.

| Hi.. Sorry I have not posted sooner, but I have not been on for awhile.. Soo happy to hear that Indy's surgery went very well I do know what you are feeling, my Gucci had liver shunt surgery this past August, it was a very stressful time for me. I will be taking her back in a few weeks to check her bile acids.. She at the moment is doing wonderful, eating , playing back to herself pretty much. I m sorry to hear that you had to go through this twice.. I don't even like to think of that, but I know it has to be done and things happen. Give your baby a big hug and kisses from Gucci and I....Hope that he continues to improve... Gina |

| Thanks for all the thoughts and get well wishes! I picked Indy up tonight and just got home about an hour ago. He is doing well, but his incision is alot longer than the 1st one. It looks great though. They used staples this time instead of sutures. When I was getting my post op instructions I noticed that they had a big red CAUTION sticker on his charts. I inquired about it because I was pretty sure that he didn't bite. She laughed and said that the caution was to warn the techs that he's a "cage diver". When ever you open his crate he comes flying out! I found that extremely funny! Never heard of that before! He also has learned to howl! I went out to feed my horses when I got home and I put him in his crate while I was gone. I got to the basement and heard him howling for all he was worth! It was kinda pitiful! He is resting comfortably right now with his little e-collar on. He ate for me and gets his pain meds in an hour. So glad he's home!!!! |
