| Dog in Heat...I think??? I have a 8 month old little girl. I think that she is in heat but she has been this way for almost 3 weeks. How long does the first heat last and what should I do? I have been keeping my boy away from her this whole time just in case. she has swollen tities and her little thing is hughe. I have no idea what to do. can someone please help? Thanks in advance

| A normal heat lasts approx. 21 days, but could be longer, from the onset of bleeding. The first stage is the red blood. The second stage is when the blood turns to a straw colored and this is when mating usually takes place. The third stage the male will still be interested, but the female will growl at him. Just keep them separated and have the female spayed before the next heat, if you are not wanting to breed. |

| They will go back to normal (unless she is pregnant), it's just the affect the changing hormones have on her body. |
