My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | Amoxicilan Does anyone use the amoxicilan past the 14 days? I'm starting to use mine, never opened and been in the fridge but today is day 14. I'm going to use it because I'm not paying my vet a huge exam fee, just to get the prescrition. Also - does anyone know if you can buy it some where without the prescription???? | Hi there I hope this will help. After the 14 days the potency goes down. So I guess it is up to you. Does it have a lot left??? Or is there only a couple of doses left??? I don't think you would want to use it for a long time, because of the potency going down. I am sorry I don't know of anywhere you can get antibiotics with out a script. I hope I helped you a little. My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | It did help thanks! I have two full bottles. They were prescribed for my cat but he can't take it as they make him vomit. A breeder looked me Tia today (my cleft puppy) and said I should be giving her antibiotics because of her aspirating noises she makes. So I'm going to start giving it to her. Thanks for your help! |

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | For Sale? I just thought of something, Does anyone here happen to have some amoxicil they could sell? I just thought I'd ask because I know some people have great relationships with their vets and have access to meds more than others. (I'm not that lucky!!!) |

| Next time you get a prescription of Amoxil you can ask your vet to give it to you unreconstituted (powder only). You can easily reconstitute it at home with the mL's the bottle says by adding distilled water. Never use reconstituted antibiotics past the 10 days........and make sure they are always maintained refrigerated. Jess

Amoxil or the generic Amoxicillin is rather cheap so you can always call phone your vet to call one in to the pharmacy of your choice when needed. As with any other prescription med, it should not be sold without a prescription. Just my humble opinion! Jess

| I understand, but the shelf life is only 14 days.........and also how much would you know to adminster without consulting a vet? (I doubt anyone has the medication in powder form.....the pharmacy hands it to you already reconstituted). Even if you were to get it unreconstituted it's not a good idea. I'm a nurse, that is the only reason why I offer advice. If you over medicate it is not a good thing right? But if you undermedicate you could make things worse. Some bacteria can become resistant to the med and make things worse. That is why you MUST finish all the medication prescribed or atleast take it for the number of days the vet or dr. prescribes it for. Also, you cannot give this med if you are unsure if it is a bacterial or viral infection (for what you need a vet). All I am doing is offering friendly advice. Good luck, Jessica
