| I'm so mad at myself for giving Scout Lepto shot! Scout got his annual vaccinations yesterday at the Vet. When he was a puppy last year, he always ran a fever and felt yucky for one day after shots. This was his first time to get yearly shots since puppyhood (he turned 1 on May 21st). He is so sick! He was up at midnight last night crying pitifully at the foot of my bed (he sleeps in a little kennel with the door open). I picked him up and he yelped louder and felt feverish. I put him down and he just stumbled around at my feet...couldn't even walk. He was holding up his back legs like they were cramping or something. I gave him a baby aspirin and brought him to bed with me, where he shook for about an hour and cried off and on. He's absolutely suffering! This morning he has vomited 3 or 4 times. I gave him more aspirin, thank goodness he held that down long enough to get in his system. He's just lying here next to me utterly miserable. The research I'm done points to the Lepto...I think I will request not to get that one next year, as he has "vaccinosis" with shots every time. My poor baby. I was trying to do what was best for his health and took my wonderfully healthy Yorkie in yesterday, and have a very sick Yorkie today...I hate this...then I feel like a bad doggie mom if I don't get his required vaccinations. I think I will call my Vet in a little while to get his take on it. Sorry everybody...just venting and need sympathy from people who understand!

| The breeder that I got TJ and Roxy from, their Vet DOESN"T give Lepto and they told me to pass that info along to my Vet. Well, I did, but my Vet said they they DO!!! They said that there are lot of LEPTO cases around here and that they SHOULD get it. Thank goodness Roxy and TJ did not have any side effects. I really hope your baby feels better soon! |

| AWWWWWWWW poor little Scout. I sure do hope he feels better soon. My baby, Hootie, always feels so crappy after her shots, but she has never felt like this before! She is still a puppy, though, and is still receiving her puppy shots. Your post got me nervous since Hootie always feels crappy, so I searched the internet for info on the Lepto vaccine. I found that the strains of Lepto going around these days are not even the strains that are vaccinated for. Also, there are more and more dogs that are having allergic reactions to the vaccine. I bet that is what is wrong with Scout...poor little baby. I am going to have to talk to my vet about this before Hootie gets her yearly vaccine for Lepto. |

| I just talked to my Vet. He feels terrible that Scout is so sick. He said it was most likely from the Lepto and he wouldn't give it to him again since he's sensitive to it. Pippa always takes it with no problem. He was concerned that Scout was not wanting to bear weight on his back legs and the vomiting. He said if it was a vaccine reaction, it should start resolving by this afternoon or late tonight. If he is still sick and vomiting in the morning he will open the clinic to see him. I'm so thankful I have a good Vet!

| Poor little guy, I'm sorry he's having such a bad reaction. I hope he starts feeling better soon and that it's just the reaction to the shot and nothing more.

| I read about Lepto on here the day before my Chewy had his Rabbies shot. I talked to the vet and it turned out my vet will never give Lepto unless the owner asks for it and it is a hunting dog. he said you can give meds for Lepto if caught in time. Humans can also get Lepto! He dislikes it so much he doesn't keep it in the office. Sorry your baby is so sick... Fell better soon baby I'll pray for you!

| This is what I asked my new Vet tp do with my babies since they are small dogs. Don't give them all the boosters at once, that makes them really sick in most cases, so split them he gives them some in one visit and 2 weeks later he gives them the other ones. I learnt that from my other Vet. ( I guess the only good think I learnt from him)

| Best wishes to your baby. Hope he'll get well soon. I'll keep in mind to skip lepto for my girl. So what is lepto for?

| My vet will only do One shot a week! They really spread them out on a Yorkie. Also the rabbies shot is the same dose for all dogs... i was concerned about that and my vet reduced the dose for him! I was told a horse gets double the shot of a dog!!!! Yorkies and Saint Bernards get the same dose unless you ask for them to reduse the dose!!!! I can't believe it but thats what I was told! Hope this helps....

| Well, my little guy is back to his old self as of yesterday mid-morning. Yesterday morning we awoke to the front room being plastered with dog vomit...apparently Scout got up in the middle of the night without waking me up, tipped over the cat food bag in the kitchen and ate his fill of cat food....which he promptly re-decorated the front room. Thank goodness for wood floors!! Yuck. Anyway, he seemed to feel alot better, dancing his little Yorkie morning dance. I'm so relieved!
