| Ferdinand ate some chocolate I recently moved and was unpacking the final box which had some small (about 3/4 of an inch long each) chocolate in it. I took it them out and set them on the floor next to me. The next thing I know I look over and Ferdinand had eaten about 3/4 of one of the candy-coated chocolate eggs. Being that I'm a new puppy mama, I freaked out. I immediately went online to find out how much it takes to be harmful so I knew whether or not to take him to the vet. Here's the link to the article that I used http://www.finedarkchocolate.com/Cho..._Chocolate.asp Ferdinand only weighs 2.0 pounds right now, so I figured about an ounce would be harmful. Just to be on the safe side I gave him some hydrogen peroxide and water mixed to induce vomitting like the article advises. Boy it hardly takes any of that mixture and a couple minutes later out came everything. He's pretty wiped out now, so I'm just going to let him sleep on my lap and wake him up every couple of minutes to make certain he's still okay and monitor him to make sure he doesn't show any signs of toxicity. I've been trying to give him water and food so he doesn't get dehydrated and his glucose levels don't drop, but I don't think he trusts me after giving him that mixture and making him puke. Poor little guy.... man, what a scare!!!

| Awww, poor little Ferdinand. I hope he is OK. Just the thought of drinking that mixture makes me queasy. Sending prayers and hugs for both of you. Keep us posted.

| This reminds me of when my 10 year old chihuahua Rica was a puppy. She use to jump on top of the chairs at the kitchen table and then ontop of the table. My mom JUST made a tray of brownies.... So Miss Rica jumped up there and ate ALMOST HALF A TRAY OF BROWNIES!!! We were all freaking out....so we called the emergency vet and he told us to do the hydrogen perioxide/water thing. Not even 2 minutes later, Rica threw it all up. She was fine afterwards....but now...she LOVES chocolate. If she smells it, she comes running. We don't give her any, of course.....but if there's even a hint of chocolate in the air, she comes running. I hope Ferdinand is ok!! Keep us posted.

| Hi all, Thanks so much for all the nice comments you left. Ferdinand is back to his normal perky and mischevious self again tonight. I'll definitely never leave any chocolate anywhere where he'll even have the slightest chance of getting to it! He's such a sweet little thing - I don't know what I would have done if he would have gotten really sick.
