| Do dogs get leg cramps? We had been swimming for most of the afternoon and Gus was having a ball. He is finally wanting to go in but only when I'm there. He will walk to the edge and bark for me to put him in. It's the cutest thing. Anyway, we got out and came inside to change. Gus was drying himself on my bed by walking back and forth. All of a sudden he started yelping very loudly. I looked down and he had his right back leg was up and his toes were curled upward. Kinda like we do after painting our toe nails and walk. I went to go pick him up

| ops I clicked the submit botton an accident. Tbis crazy family has me running around here and I lost track of what I was doing,,, I went to go pick him up and he cried out louder. I got so scared. My husband wraped him up and carried him down stars and he wasn't crying after that. I got his leg and handled it and he was fine. It was so strange. He's fine now but I just don't know what happened.

| Monica, what a great question! Poor baby Gus, Hallie sends him kisses on his little leg. You've totally got me wondering about this now. If you don't get any responses I'm going to call my vet in the morning and ask him (I'm the queen of questions for him). I can't imagine why they wouldn't be susceptable to them like we are and man do they hurt! |

| my vet was closed as well. I was ready to take him to the emergence but he seems to be doing fine now. It's the only thing I could think of, because I used to get some really ugly legs cramps especially when I was pregnant. He's fine now. I was thinking that it could maybe be a bee sting, but there is nothing on his legs that shows any signs of a bite or sting of any kind.

| Well Gus seems to be just fine. I would sure like to know what happened. I keep checking every so often to see if there is anything different but there hasn't been. My vet was already gone for the day so I am going to call the first thing tomorrow. I would like to get all the info I can get! I hope it never happens again, but I would like to know what to do just incase it does.

| Yes! I went in and talked to my vet today and he said absolutely just like humans do especially after vigorous activity! He also said it could be the knees if they have LP (like Simon). He also said he was glad Gus was feeling better he is such a nice man! |

| Lolas leg has cramped up on two occasions, both times she snapped out of it rather quickly, but it sure is a scary feeling when they start yelping like that.....Im so glad your baby Gus is better! |

| I hope I'm doing this correctly. It's the first time I've actually made a comment. I just googled asking if it was possible for a dog to get a cramp? And I received this page. Thank you so much!!! My Yorkie just had a cramp. It was not my first thought, all I could think was she broke her leg. However, I was wondering how? Our Tiny is old and she is a lap dog. Dose not really walk around all that much unless she wants to. I had just brought her in from out side. She went to her chair and about twenty mins. later she started crying so loud. I called the Vet and the young lady asked me to have her walk towards me. She was in too much pain. I called my husband at work and he came home. Yes, he came home because he could hear her crying in pain. I wanted him to drive so that I could carry her. Then all off sudden I saw her moving her leg. I put her on the ground and she started walking. I was so happy and my thought maybe it was a cramp. I called and asked the young lady that answered the phone at the Vet's office and she did not think it was a cramp. I googled it and a few people did say they do. Thank God for the internet. Thank you for this great topic. We will be at the Fair Grounds in San Jose, CA this Saturday selling doggie costumes and much more. Quote:

| Aloha, My little dog had a similar experience today at the beach after swimming and walking for a while on the beach. She is only two years old and has never had a problem swimming or exercising before. It was one of the most scary moments of my life. She whimpered and limped for a short time and then just sat down. It seemed exactly like she had a spasm or cramp. Tonight she is quietly resting and seems fine, but I am still concerned and will watch her carefully until tomorrow when we will see the vet, too. Thanks for sharing your response, because otherwise, I am sure I would not sleep tonight worrying. |
