I'm going through a Giardia bout with Preston right now!!! He just finished his second round of medication and it did not get rid of them. I'm going to disinfect his bed and wash his bum everytime now... I have two other dogs and they don't have it or seem too... Their stools are fine. Do you think I should have them treated anyway?

I'm so sorry to hear that. Do you know how he got it? What meds was he on? How long has he had it? Did you get his stool retested after the 2nd treatment? Disinfecting is very important to help get rid of the cysts. If he has an accident in the house, disinfect the spot right away. If he poos on a pad, change the pad right away. The breeders told me to wash everything mid-treatment and after treatment and to give her a bath after treatment. This included her pen area, the pen itself, blankets, toys, bedding, etc. When I saw Angel had pooed and she sat on anything in her pen, I'd wash/disinfect it. I was disinfecting like crazy!

Dogs can still have Giardia and not have symptoms, which is what LuvMySissy said. From what I know, every dog in the house needs to be treated. I would treat them too, but make sure the meds are the right dosage for their weight. When I told the breeders Angel had the parasite, they treated all their dogs and they have a lot of dogs. You need to be persistent in order to get rid of it. Good luck!

We just did a serial stool test over 3 days, which is supposed to be more accurate than just giving 1 stool sample. You may want to consider it. Let us know how your dogs are doing.
