Yorkie attacked by UNLEASHED Black Lab...w/pix Heres the details from Saturday and this weekend: Mom was walking Buster (3 year old Yorkshire Terrier) and out of the blue came a Black Lab. Ran right at Buster and bit down hard and shook him. Owner came running and grabbed the lab, but Buster was hurt bad. My Mom ran home with the dog and they called the vet and quickly drove him into the vet hospital. He was in pretty bad shape Saturday night the last I heard. He had to have a surgery Saturday night to re-attach musle to his bone and skin, as well as had to have the puncture wounds cleaned. He now is doing a little better says the doc (but looks horrible and if not for the pain meds, is in a lot of pain). Cops gave the owners a WARNING. But I looked up and according to Wisconsin law, they should have at LEAST gotten a ticket for a dog not being on a leash, and having that dog cause destruction to a person, domestic animal, or property. Got call this morning from my mother and apparently the doctor said that he is now putting weight on his left front leg (which they thought had really bad nerve damage). So that is a good sign. He will be going home today sometime and then will have the drainage tubes taken out on Wed. I will keep this thread updated in the coming days if anyone cares. Pictures are below, and I apologize in advance for the quality. All I had with me was my cell phone. http://xs101.xs.to/xs101/06220/06-04-06_1020.jpg http://xs101.xs.to/xs101/06220/06-04-06_1021.jpg http://xs101.xs.to/xs101/06220/06-04-06_1022.jpg |
I feel terrible for you and your baby. To have a baby attacked by any animal not leashed should be fined at the least. Do you know who the dog owner is. And have they offered to pay the vet bill? I am praying that your baby comes through this. I am so overly protective of my Dollie and this is just why. People are idiots when it comes to their animals and this is proof again that we have to practically have one hand on our babies at all times when out in the public especially. I am so sorry this had to happen to this precious little creature. God Bless .... |

thanks for your support. He is not mine though, he is my Parents. Though he is like a little brother to me, for sure. |
Ah, poor thing! That is horrible, Yes they should be responsible for the vet bills, and no fine no nothing?? Do you have leash laws? |
Poor baby, I wish him a full and speedy recovery. Jessica |

yes, there are leash laws. Father will be contacting Chief of Police today, as the officer who was on call apparently didnt know what he was doing, or maybe did not care. |
OMG, that poor baby!! So glad that little Buster seems to be doing better. Please keep us updated and I will keep Buster in my prayers. :getwellso |
That is horrible!! Get well soon little Buster! |
That is terrible, poor little Buster, i hope he is going to be ok. I'd make shure they get a ticket plus be responsible for all the vet bills, that is the least they can do ! |
OMG how awful. I'm so glad that he is doing better. Good for your dad he definitely needs to contact someone else in the PD and at the least the owners of the other need to be ordered to pay all vet bills. Please keep us posted. |
OMG poor BABY ! That's just awful and Labs are usually so nice and gentle :( how awful for him - It just goes to show that NO strange dog is safe around little yorkies - We really have to always be on the lookout. Poor little guy - We're sending get well wishes to him and he's lucky to be alive.... bless his heart ! |
Poor Buster! It's good to know that he is going back home today.:) I hope those irresponsible owners get a ticket after your dad goes to talk to the police chief. |
How horrible for that baby! I keep my eyes open wide around here for loose dogs. even if they are gentle dogs my Buckeye might change their attitude. any dog can accidentally get loose but there should be a fine and they also should pay the vet bills. if mine did that to another dog i certainly would offer to pay and give support where ever needed to the injured. I hope your mothers yorkie gets better soon. |
Poor little Buster. I would follow-up with the Police and explain what a dangerous situation this is and just how bad Buster was because of it. Once a dog attacks, it is only a matter of time before they do it again. And the owner's should be paying all Buster's medical bills. We'll keep Buster in our prayers for a fast, full and speedy recovery. Let him know all his fellow YT'ers are rooting for him! |
Oh, that poor baby! I too say that the lab owner should have gotten a ticket and should also be responsible for the vet bills. How to go about making them pay the bills, I don't know. Hope you find out! And yes, every lab I've known has been pretty docile (AFTER getting over the puppy stage) so I'm thinking something must have provoked this lab. Not your parents dog.... maybe something health-related with the lab? Please keep us updated! |
