We always use a dog stroller when we take our three little yorkies with us. Last time someone walked up with a big male greyhound that they had just adopted the night before. He tried to stick his nose into the yorkies stroller, but could not because it has stong mesh on it. I shiver to think of what could have happened if they were just walking around. As it was our Luca took her nose and banged his three times in a row right through the mesh as if to tell him to scram. Strollers also keep little children from grabbing what they think are little puppies. I hope this little guy is all healed now. |
get a stun gun sorry, I am not in favor of hurting animals in the normal course of things, but these breeds are not well able to defend themselves against a medium to large dog...I really don't know whether a couple of thousand volts from a stun gun will kill a lab, or shepherd or whatever, but I have come to the conclusion I will protect my little ones as best I can, and wouldn't be reluctant to use a pistol in certain situations, like a pack of dogs that owners just let run free and often cause depredations on wildlife and other pets. Sorry if folks don't wanna hear it, and I really don't know the liability issues, but if it's a choice between my dog on a leash (which already handicaps him in a fight) and some mean canine, my choice is let someone do CPR on that animal rather than me carry mine torn up to the vet. And I know that is not a good solution, as things often happen too fast, but you never know if it will make a difference (and don't stun him if he's got your baby boy or girl in his mouth) At least carry a stick or bat. |
That almost happened to my puppy too! I was lucky she can run as fast as she can. I was visiting my family and she was out in the yard with my brother, when this pit bull comes tearing into the yard and chased her everywhere - into the front yard, and the street, before it's owner came and tackled it. Why don't people train their dogs?!! |
I am really sorry to hear what happened to Buster. It should not have happened as yorkies have as much right to be walked as any other pet. I too use a pet stroller for my 2 yorkies, because I know people are careless and thoughtless. I have a neighbor with his golden retriever in his front yard loose all the time. He says it is trained to stay on his property. I don't trust his dog and I treat my yorkies like cats. I don't trust big dogs around them. Please know I am keeping Buster and your mother in my prayers and I hope it all works out well for you. The vet bills are the responsibility of the lab owner as thier negligence caused your vet bills. |
You know this always makes me so angry to read about these little babies being hurt by careless morons letting their bigger dogs run loose. We live in a suburban neighborhood and our houses are all on 2 acre lots and don't even feel comfortable to walk Yogi and Dori outside of our lot because there are 3 pits across the street, a german shepherd and several larger mutts that are always trolling the neighborhood. Since we are 5 miles outside of the city, there were never any leash laws or any laws pertaining to domestics pets here. We just got a police force 3 years ago, were annexed, and implemented laws that pets are supposed to be on leashes and kept within our fenced yards. The only thing is no one enforces it:confused: You can call and complain, get a "we'll look into it" and the next day, the same. I t makes me crazy:rolleyes: . |
Oh my dear God, that is so awful. I am very sorry to hear that..the poor wee pet! thinking of you in Finland. |
So sorry! Oh my.. your poor doggie. I'm so sorry to hear that. I really hope he makes through this as quick as possible! |
how awful, I always worry that something will happen while Lola & I are on a walk. How is a 4 pound yorkie suppose to defend themselves against a LAB, or even smaller dogs, such as beagles even, who, comparitavely are still 3-4 times larger than our little babies! I think I may look into getting a stroller; it would give me SOME piece of mind. after all, no matter how secure you have your dog, others may not....I hope your parents baby makes a speedy & full recovery!!! |
Any updates on Buster?Cathy and Yoshi:animal-pa |
Hi, my name is Monica, I don't believe I've had the pleasure to make your acquaintance. Let me start off by saying,,,WELCOME TO TY!!! I got the chills after reading this thread. The same thing happened to my Gus in May of 05. I thank the stars up above that he pulled though. It was a German Shepherd that got ahold of my baby. The owners were warned + a fine + they had to pay all vet bills. I am so glad to hear that your little one is pulling though. I know all too well how your family feels! My heart goes out to you all. Please give him a big hug from me and Gus. Here is the link to our story. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42928 |
I feel so bad for that puppy :( i send you my prayers and love. That Lab should have been ON A LEASH!!!! I am not the type of person to sue, but in this case i would, God be with that pup and make him strong! we love ya love presley\'s mom |
I just read this post today...I\'m so sorry to hear, I hope your little one is doing better. My pup got bit earlier this year and it was a horrible experience. Please keep us posted. |
OMG, how awful. I would be going after the owners of the dog that wasn\'t on a lease for Vet bills. They need to know the consequences of not keeping their dog under control. Hope you parent\'s little one get through this without being to traumatized. My Prayers are there for you. |
