| Vomiting and Diarrhea Coco is sick and I was not sure how worried I should be...She has had diarrhea last night and today she has been sleeping most of the morning. This morning she still had diarrhea but there was a lot of mucus in it and then Just a few minutes ago she started throwing up some yellow stuff. I switched her food last week from the Nutro with Lamb to Nutro Chicken and Rice (she like the chicken and rice better). I thought maybe this caused her to get sick but she was fine the first few days on it and she hasn't had a problem with it in the past. Does anyone have any advice? Should I take her to the vet of just wait it out a little bit more?? I tend to overreact when she gets sick but I hate when she is not feeling well. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!!

Donating YT 14K Club Member | The yellow stuff is probably bile. You need to watch her. I'd take her to the vet. These guys can get hypoglycemic on you and dehydrate pretty fast. Keep us updated.

| A change in diet, especially if done abruptly could cause these symptoms. Always change their food slowly by mixing in the new with the old and gradually adding more over 2 or 3 weeks time. If she is eating, you could probably give it another day or two, but if's she's not eating I would go ahead and take her in. The yellow stuff is stomach acid and usually only occurs when the stomach is empty. You can give her a half of a tums. I would also start feeding her a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice until her diarrhea clears up and then slowly start adding in the new food. |

| Well, since she vomitted she took a nap and now she is playing with her favorite squeeky toy. So, I guess she is feeling better. Thanks for your quick responses. I always get upset when she's sick...I will keep an eye on her for now. It was probably the food change that upset her stomach. Thanks Again!

| SIGNS OF COLITIS (In veterinary medicine, "signs" means the same thing as the word "symptoms" in human medicine.) The usual signs of colitis in dogs and cats can cover a range of abnormalities from intermittent constipation to long term (chronic) diarrhea. In general, because the bowel tissues are inflamed and irritated, the most common signs are frequent need to defecate and soft to watery stool. Some dogs and cats with colitis pass liquid stool, often with blood, six to ten times a day. Straining to defecate (called tenismus) while producing little or no stool, is another common sign. These dogs and cats with colitis are very uncomfortable and often their appetite is suppressed due to a general state of ill health. Along with the debilitating effects of passing frequent, loose stool (called diarrhea), many dogs and cats with colitis ( IBD, IBS, SBS ) will display a gradual weight loss. Chronic colitis almost always creates a weight loss situation in dogs and cats due to the loss of vitamins, rapid transit of food through the entire gastrointestinal system, blood and fluid loss, and infectious agents entering the animal's body through the damaged intestinal wall This is from the net - I don't think vomiting is usually involved. |

| Gracie just went through this last week, long long week ). The vomitting can be a side effect of severe colitis. The mucous according to my vet is a tell tale sign of the colitis. If we see that we know that we have to get her in right away and start treatment......I would definetley check with the vet. Good luck and feel better...........keeping your little one in my thoughts

| I ha to change Capone's food from puppy food to adult food at 10 months and he did not react well to the change. (I even did it starting at 10% "new" food 90% "old" food ect for the course of 2 weeks) Eventually till it was all the adult "new" food. He threw up here and there as well as had runny stool. Just make sure they are eating. My vet has me give Capone pedialite when he has any type of vomittingg/diaehrea....it keeps there electrolites balanced. Once he got used to the new food he was fine though! I also gave him some boiled chicken and rice to help calm his tummy and keep something in there too. hope this helps! |

| I was going to call the vet yesterday but I decided to just wait it out. Today she has been acting like herself and she hasn't been throwing up or any diarrhea. She even ate her food this morning so i guess she is feeling better. It must have just been her food. Thanks for all of your advice and if she gets sick again today, I will bring her in. You all are the best support when our little ones are sick.
