i'm sorry for starting another thread but she is STILL sick! i'm sorry everyone i have started a few on the same subject over the last month or so... but snickers is still sick she was just at the vet friday and i swear she is worse this morning - still bleeding all over the house diarrhea etc she took the giardia meds and now the coccidia meds and dewormed and we are doing the chicken and rice diet as the vet suggested and nothing... she is active and happy but what is going on here?? any help? i dont think its the vet we have been thru 2 vets since she started getting sick and i like the one we are using now but i am just really getting concerned - this has been going on for 4-6wks now! |
I'm so sorry, I haven't gotten to reading your other threads , but what tests have they done alreadY? |
Wow i would be very concerned too. 4-6 weeks is a long time for diahrea especially bloody diahrea. It seems like the meds would work by now. I dont have any answers but I would maybe see another vet. I hope Snickers gets better soon. |
and they ruled out parvo? |

so far for the giardia and coccidia - which she had but has been treated for i dont know what the deal is at this point i just know she is not getting better at all |

the bloody diarrhea has been at least 4weeks - diarrhea in general about 6... i think the reason why the vet has been passive about it is because she is acting so healthy but still... its a really long time... |

no but she has had all her parvo vaccines on time and she is acting healthy..? i dont know a whole lot about parvo but i didnt think she would be real active no? does liver shunt cause bleeding does anyone know? |
You have to take her to someone else Quote:
You should have some diapers on her to save your floors. :( |

the 1st vet said it was her food, then said she was fine, then said she was in heat so i found a new vet who diagnosed the giardia/coccidia/colitis 3wks ago she treated it and i brought her back on friday and she wasnt any better so we are continuing the bland diet and the coccidia meds now |
I still think the meds should have had it cleared up by now. When Chachi had diahrea the vet put him on meds and it was gone in 2 or 3 days. |
It could also be irritable bowels /colittis... |
wow Sorry, to hear the problem has continued. I would keep her on rice and chicken, no treats or anything else. I would take a stool sample to a new vet...ask for a check on the sample..no examine. I would tell them to charge me for an examine if they refuse to check the sample without seeing the dog..but all you want is a 3rd opinion. I would get a shot for stool problem..there are many meds that are given in a shot form and work well...I do not know the exact names of these meds..all I know is when Kate's mother was scratching at death's door with a terrible bout of diarrhea after whelping...he gave her one shot, IV fluid and by evening she was back to normal. Best wishes and never apologize for posting...I would be also. |
I would test for parvo, even though they have the shot, better safe than sorry... |
what about worms? |

Gosh, I'm sorry... Quote:
Boy, I am stumped!! How awful for your baby! I would be really careful to make sure she is getting a ton of fluids in her every day. Pedialite for babies is good. It has electrolites in it. I would be so scared of dehydration... Obviously you are taking really good care of her already, or she would not be playing and in such great spirits. :p Good luck!!! Let us know how things go! :getwellso |
old old is snickers? |
i meant how old is snickers?? |

she is 17wks now |
omg...she is just a baby. |
Hope poor snickers feels better soon, i would go to another vet ! |
Keep us updated on what you find out about Snickers. I am worried about her. That is just way too long to have diahrea. Really watch her for dehydration and give her pedialyte. |
i will get some pedilyte on the way home i didnt even think of that... i already called the vet and left a message i am waiting for her to call me back whats worse is that my 6yr old son has been in the hospital for 2wks and they offerred to see her today but i couldnt take it i have a meeting w/his doctor then and i have no-one else to do it hopefully they can give some advice over the phone - either way she is def going in this week back to the vet its starting to seem like she has always been sick and i feel so bad for her and that i'm not helping her i'm trying but nothing is working :( |
I would take her to another vet. Is there a specialist in your area? I think even though she is acting fine otherwise there is something going on with your baby and more extensive testing needs to be done. Please keep us posted. |
update... i just talked to the vet they want me to give her 1/2tsp 3x/day of pepto bismal and also a longer dose of a metro(something) one of the meds she was already on... and they are going to try eukanuba low residue because she wouldnt eat the prescription food they gave me for her they said its the next step if she still isnt better they want to get a second opinion "in office" possibly friday |

When my Joey was about 12 weeks old and weighed 1 lb 14 ozs. he had Coccidia too! I was so worried about the diarrhea and then the bloody diarrhea, sometimes it was clear with blood, he was soo tiny. My Vet put Joey on Sulfadimethoxine Oral Solution Gal. The dosage was 1/2 cc the first day and then 1/4 cc once a day for 30 days. He also had Joey on the bland ID food. Within a week the diarrhea was better, no blood. It still took another few days, but it worked. I continued giving the medicine for the 30 days like I was instructed and we have had no more problems. Joey will be 2 years old in July. Didn't know what meds yours has been on, but I know this worked for us. |
Hope all goes well I am so sorry to hear that your puppy is sick and your son. I know this is trying times for you I will put your family human and fur family in my prays. It is always the tough times that makes us stronger. :) |
