and Megan - the Humane Society doesn't do this kind of thing...nor the ASPCA. BUT...the ER Vet she went to last night DID turn her away for lack of money :mad:

I also think that $50 for help from that poison control place is money well spent, but can they not make an exception for someone who doesn't have the money? Good grief! There are always exceptions to the rules and I would think this should have been one of those times that the rules were broken!

It is times like this that I lose faith in mankind, yet on the other hand, regain that loss by the outpouring of love from everyone on YT!

Years ago I was turned a way from the vet too. because I did not have full paymenat. My Doberman died of a heart attack and my pug lost his eye. Its very sad these vets wont take payment plan and can turn you away. Ifthey would of took my pug in in time they could of saved the eye instead they left me standing at the door. I will never go to that vet again.

Well..that would be difficult to control. How would they be able to screen who could and couldn't afford the money over the phone. When i questioned it they said the service was available because of the money they charged. I can't imagine going through what I did w/out this service. Like i posted previously we were MANY miles away from any kind of help and this service basically saved my Winni's life. Let's try not to knock what they do. They are not in the business of ripping people off and making money, they are in the business of helping you in times of stress..and part of that includes money for them to be able to run their business.

I have no clue how i missed this thread. I wouldn't have seen it if it weren't for the post on general discussion, so thanks to the person who did that. I feel really bad for Marie and Gucci and I am praying it all turns out ok. I would like to donate to help with the costs as well....

I want to thank everyone that has donated for Gucci's care and for all your prayers. Gucci is sleeping now, but she seems nervous and she is a bit woobly(sp?) when she tries to walk. She also vomited the charcoal when we got home. The vet told me that it was best if I would have bring her in yersterday and that he did all he could. He did the charcoal thing and gave her two injections. He also prescribed 1/2 Vitamin K tablet once a day for 30 days and she needs to go back in 3 weeks to do a PT test(clotting factor test). Im so nervous because when I left this morning she was playing and now she can't even walk straight. The vet said to keep her calm and check her poop and urine for any signs of bleeding. He is hoping that since she is young she will get better. But now all I can do is wait and pray for my little girl. I don't know If I can handle if we loose her. I keep checking on her every few mins. I dont know if I can sleep tonite. Im calling my reg vet tomorrow also.

There was another couple there that their french bull dog had also ingested rat poison today. Her prognosis is better than Gucci's cause she ingested some today and they took her in rite away.

Gucci's regular vet is in the Bergh Memorial Hosp in the ASPCA, but they closed at 4 on Sat and are closed on Sun. When I called them yesterday they recomended the AMC ER hosp, and they refuse to see Gucci. There are only 2 clinics that I know that are open 24 hours for ER, and both demand payment before treatment. This morning I was going to take her to the Humane Society cause a vet over the phone told me to try them. I called the Humane Society this morning to make sure they were open, and the first thing i was told was that they see pts by appts only. I told them it was an Emergency cause my baby had ingested a poison to what they told me thay dont treat that and refered me to the same clinic that denied Gucci treatment yesterday. I kept calling all vets that were open today until I found the vet that saw Gucci today, they are my angels.

Once again, Thank you for your prayers and donations. You all are my heroes and I dont even know how to pay you all back, but I will somehow. I will have you all in my prayers.


Xtine, Im so sorry that Cloey is sick and was also denied care. I will have you both in my prayers. I hope she gets better soon. PLease keep us posted.

Villette, can you call Marie and ask her to have her vet call me? I will put as much of the bill as I can on my charge card. I sold my 2 standard color puppies yesterday and I feel God directs me to help with that money..I am home and will help any way I can!!
I lost a little rescued German Shepherd Dog to a poisoned rat years ago, and I remember how kind my landlord was to me.. I will return the favor..

Marie...Thanks for the update and we will all be pulling for Gucci...You have some great friends here that's for sure....I want to say thanks to ALL who helped and those that are keeping her in their prayers....I really saw some big hearts ...and she needs those prayers.

I still can't believe they turned her away last night...they could have at least induced vomiting to give her a head start on getting it out of her system.. :( but now we can just keep thinking positive thoughts for you Marie...It sounds like the Vet did all the right things for you.
