| feeding 12 day old pups Hi, I am new here. I have a yorkie that gave birth by c-section 12days ago. She has been on antibiotics and has developed mastitis. She is now on different antibiotics but I need to supplement the pups. I think I have figured out the bottle thing now I just need to know how often and how much to feed the babies. They are weighing between 5oz and 6oz. |

| Gotta feed at least every 2-3 hours around the clock. The amount depends on them and how much they will take. Will mom pee and poop them? If not, you have to do that too. In another week you can start them on puppy weaning food and things will look up...more mess but fewer bottles... |

| Hi, sorry you're going through this. My Emilee developed mastitis about 10 -12 days after giving birth too. The antibiotics worked great and within 3 days she was back to her old self and the hardness in her teat was gone. I supplemented with Esbilac. Mine wouldn't take the bottle or eye dropper. So.....I took the eye dropper and layed it next to the teats and the puppies took it that way. Kinda faked them out you might say. I did this every 2-3 hours round the clock until Emilee took over again.

| Thanks I just wanted to up date everyone. All of my babies are doing great and mom has healed up nicely. I am still bottle feeding the pups but only 2 times a day mom has taken over most of the nursing. They are all wonderful little bundles of joy and it will be hard to let them all go. They will be 3 wks tommorrow. Thank you all for the kind words and prayers you have given me. |

| China had to have a c-section but the vet never put her on any meds , We had to hold her and show her that the pups where hers , We got bitten twice but in the end she had realized they where hers and took over , she needs me to remind her that they are here once and awhile but other then that she addapted really quik to her babbies and now they are doing so good 2 weeks old yesturday. I wish you luck with your pups.

| Oh my...I am really sorry to hear that you're going through this. I lost my girl during a C-section and all her pups except for one. It's a really tough time when you're feeding pups around the clock. The pups do need to eat every 2 hours around the clock. My friend, Mary (Bugaboosmom) really helped me out during this tough time. She checked the pup's belly after a few seconds of feeding. You want them to feel full, but not like they're about to pop. I personally counted to 20 and checked her belly and that always seemed to be enough for her (but that's just what helped me). Make sure you relieve them so they poop and pee every so often. Just use a warm cotton ball/pad and wipe them in a kind of licking motion (like their mommy would do). Just be careful not to irritate their little bottoms like I did!
