Oh no I am so sorry. I will definitely will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. |
Patti - Checking in with you - any news on Cali ? Is she home with you yet ? You've been on my mind all afternoon and I really hope you get good news friend :) |
Cali is home! I picked her up at 6:15 she was so excited to see me she almost jumped out of the nurse's arm and she had a good grip on her.She seems pretty good, looks a little ragged understandably. They said they couldn't get her to eat which is what I have been telling them she won't eat unless it has hamburger in it! So I can feed her boiled hamburger or chicken and rice. She is on 2 meds one for worms even though she tested negative and one is an antibiotic. I asked why they put her on worm meds and they said in case the sample didn't have any parasites in it and it will help with the diahrrea. I will get her Bile acid results tomorrow. I am pretty nervous. They put her on Panacur for worms and Metronidazole an antibiotic. Does anyone have any experience with these 2 meds? Thank you all so much for your concern and prayers. I am going to think positive! |
I'm thinking positive FOR you ! That's great that she's home....I've been waiting to see you post girl ...Still praying for her but she must be so estatic to be back with her mommy.... I know it was a long long day for you. |
Finally, a post...I can take a breath now. I have used both Panacur and the Metronidazole, or Flagyl as brand name with great success. Jolene came into the family with a really messed up gut, impacted with leaves, twigs and wormies. For a long time, any change in her environment or stress and here comes the blood again. I am talking, lots of it, bright red and everywhere. A few days on the Flagyl and Panacur and she was good as new. Now that the vet realized she had underlying coccidia as well as the irritation, she went on a prolonged course of Flagyl and, knock on wood, we haven't had a bloody or diarrhea stool in over 6 months!! I wish the best of luck to you and Cali and I will be keeping my fingers crossed for your test results tomorrow. Please post as soon as you hear something. |

Patti, You should check out the Yahoo support and chat groups for Liver Shunts. There are quite a few. I know when Chelsie was diagnoised with Collapsed Trachea, it was the most helpful for me to actually have comunication with other people who had gone through a similar situtation. When I traveled to Knoxville Tennessee for her surgery, there were 3 dogs recovering from liver shunt surgery. I hope it is not a shunt, but if it is, there is at least a successful surgery that will save her. Dr. Tobias at UT is highly respected, and considered one of the top surgeons for liver shunts. I know she has written some articles on the condition. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Kara |
Thanks I will definatley research LS in case Cali tests positive. |

My Tia was on Panacur and it worked great. PLEASE let us know what Cali's bile acid test results are. I'm praying that they come back in normal range. Give Cali lots of kisses from me, Codie and Tee Tee. PS - My friend's pomeranian was on Metronidazole and she said she had no complications with it and all was well. |
My thoughts and prayers are with you and Cali!! Anxiously waiting (as I am sure you are too) the results of the tests!!! |
