Patti, I'm so sorry to hear that Cali is feeling sick again...I don't know if it could be LS or something else, but you asked to hear others' experiences with it, so I'll tell you mine. Like your baby, Miko had hypoglycemic episodes when he was a young pup, he also had coccidia and an upper respiratory infection at the same time, and he was not eating. He had seizures which at the time we didn't recognize them as seizures b/c he wasn't convulsing, he was lethargic, staring off into space, and couldn't walk straight. He would walk into walls...So we took him to the E.R. vet, we asked them if it was a possibility that he had a liver shunt, and they told us no and that his blood levels weren't exactly pointing to that. They said it was the coccidia and hypoglycemia. After nursing him back to health (he almost died on us :( a couple of different times), he was growing normally (no stunted growth) and he became more energetic than ever. He was never tired, so we didn't even think he could possibly have a liver shunt. A few months later, my hubby and I decided we wanted him to get a bile acid test just for our peace of mind. Maybe we were paranoid, but our baby's health comes first! The week before his vet appt, he had a seizure, and we had to rush him to the vet...They did bloodwork and urine tests and the next day, they did the bile acid test...They told us he probably had a liver shunt. To make a much longer story shorter, our vet went in for exploratory surgery, but unfortunately, he was unable to repair the shunt. No worries though, Miko is fine now! He's on a special hepatic diet and he takes medicine everyday. Our vet said he should live a normal life as long as he has his food and medicine :) He is the joy of our lives and you would never know he has a liver shunt. He's the most upbeat and sweet yorkie :) |
Oh, I am so sorry to hear this! You are both in my prayers. I know that you love Cali and I hope everything turns out ok. |
Remember my girlfriend who has a Cavalier with LS... well they came over on Tuesday night, and little Tess is doing just fine!! She was as playful and as sweet as ever! Still made Dublin woo her for a while before she would let him make out with her! ;) She is on a special diet and takes meds that run $30something a month. And seems to be healthy and happy! Hugs and prayers sent your way! |
Patti, we'll be praying for you and Cali! Please keep us updated! |
Patti, I'm praying your little Cali gets well soon. Don't let yourself think the worst. It's so early yet. They can fool you sometimes. |
You and Cali are in my prayers. I lost a yorkie at 6 1/2 years old in July and had to hospitilize my 5 year old two days later with pancreatitus. They often do not check for this as there is no exact test that will show it. PLEASE make sure you ask the vet about this....it could save her life. Please keep us posted....we all care very much! |
Thanks I'll keep you posted. |
Patti, I am so sorry that little Cali is sick. We will be praying for all of you & especially Cali. Toto exhibited those same symptoms almost a year ago & it turned out to be an intestinal inflammation. It was very sudden & the blood in the diaharrea is enough to scare you to death. Her biggest danger was the dehydration. He gave her Flagyl to treat it & it didn't take long for her to bounce back. I think sometimes the hardest thing is to identify what's wrong. Hopefully you will have some answers soon! Toto sends loads of kisses to you and Cali. |
so sorry!!! I was so sad to read your post! You and Cali are in our thoughts! |
Oh no!!! I am saying a little prayer for Cali today. I'm sure she will pull thru fine and Chewy send her a little yorkie kiss. Please update us as soon as you can. |
Patti- I hope that Calli is feeling better by now, and you have answers soon. Sometimes I think the waiting is the worst part. Raven and I will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Sending lots of yorkie hugs your way!! Kim |
I am so sad to read that Calli is having more problems. I hope she gets better soon and that you get some answers on what is causing this to happen. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Calli. |
