Milo woke up screaming in pain twice this week What could it be? Once I woke him up in the middle of the night to put a sweater on him and he screamed and cried when I tried to put the sweater on him, it was freezing in the house. After I calmed him down he went back to sleep. Then to night for no apparent reason he wakes up out of a sleep screaming and screeching in pain. It took me a few seconds to calm him down and now he is sleeping on the couch peacfully. What is this? |
This could be SO many things. He needs to be seen TODAY!! Call your vet and tell them what is going on. They should fit you in today without any issue. |
Thank you |

there are meds that could help. Without rest and meds, those type things can get much worse. Of course, there are many other things.....but, a dog screaming like that definitely has something going on. Please keep us posted. |
I’m at the ER I’m waiting outside because of Covid restrictions I didn’t even have time to get dressed he had another episode I think it’s breathing related he has a stent he has a Collapsed trachea he might have aspiration pneumonia I was afraid that he might’ve aspirated some thing the other day I’ll keep you posted I’m waiting outside |

I hope you will post updates on Milo as you get them. Keeping him and you in my thoughts..... I know the stress of having a pup in the hospital. |
Shellie, I am so very sorry to hear that Milo is sick. Sending prayers of healing up for him. |
Milo is resting comfortably in his oxygen cage. They absolutely adore him there so that is a plus. I know he will get the attention that he needs. No new data to report. Thank u Lady Jane for all your kind and loving thought's. Cindy, thank you for your loving thoughts. I wonder if you got my text about needing a new harness for MIlo. Do you still have his measurments? I tried to squeeze him into the one I got from you so long ago but it was so tight he started to cry, so I knew I needed a new one. Now I am wondering if putting it on him and was so tight around his chest brought on his pneumonia. I am so worried I might have caused this. Anyway Cindy, if you could get back to me on the harness I need for him (and leash) I would so appreciate it. I am not sure what he measured around the chest area back then, but I measured around 13.5 to 14 around without a sweater and with a thick sweater on which he wears alot i think it measures around 15. I would so much appreciate it if you could get back to me. I know you are busy Thanks to all for your loving thoughts- I will keep you posted |
There is nothing you could do to cause Milo's pneumonia!! I'm happy to hear he is doing well this evening ❤️ Thank you for updating! |
Glad to hear Milo is resting peacefully. I sent you a private message and my phone number. Milo's last chest measurement from March 1, 2014 was 9". |
Thank You Thanks Lady Jane. I have been so anxious and depressed thinking I might have squeezed his chest too tight and that might have damaged him. I keep going over and over in my head what I did to cause this. He does not go out. He has no contact with other dogs. I even have the groomer skip baths so that he doesn't get a draft. Sometimes when it is too hot in the house I will take off his sweater and there are times he will lie on the porcelain tiles to cool himself off and I wonder could that do it? My friend said when she had pneumonia it hurt her to breathe in. Maybe that's what caused the screaming. It is hard to distract myself tonight. I am restless and anxious. I have a ton of stuff to do and I cannot do anything. I want to and I simply can't. The only thing i am doing is lying in bed and watching TV. Or wander about the house. What a waste of time. I wish I could be more centered. I wonder did he aspirate one of the little pieces of treats I was giving him after his visit with his internist? Is that what caused this? Anyway it's going to be a long night and I have butterflys in my stomach. I guess what I am trying to say in a very awkward way is THANK YOU for being there Shellie:love::love::love: |
Thank you Quote:
He's really expanded LOL. Thank you so much for getting back to me. I am so worried and scared, I am walking around with butterflies in my stomach, and I can't do anything but obsess. I will check my PM and call you. Shellie |
You won't know what caused it but know this: you didn't!!!! I cannot give you any tips on how not to worry because I would be doing everything you are doing. LOL |
Checking for an update on Milo. Hope he is better today! |
Hi all I am updating you with a little I know I was called early this morning really early and they told me he was doing OK they were reducing his oxygen and they talked about him possibly coming home today they said he was eating and drinking I haven’t heard from them all day I called them three or four times and since it’s an emergency room that’s open 24 seven they were very busy today and they kept telling me They would get back to me when they could-still haven’t heard from them they are in rounds now and she said that the doctor would call me after rounds so it might be after nine before they get back to me I don’t know I’ve told you all I know right now and I’m pretty darn anxious I will update as soon as I find out more love to all |
I guess no news is good news But kind of crazy ..... Sorry. I'd be anxious too |
Just got off the phone with the doctor after rounds. She says he is out of O2 and eating and drinking. He seems comfortable. They want to keep him a day longer to continue observing him to see if he makes those screaming sounds again but he is on gabapentin so i'm wondering if that could mask the pain and we would not be able to tell where it was coming from. They are planning to send him home with ABX albuteral and his regular meds tomorrow if he does well tonight and tomorrow. Doctors still cannot identify why he was screaming, I guess I will have to live with it but I am very grateful he will hopefully be coming home tomorrow. Love, Shellie:love: |
Wonderful news! |
 |
So glad to hear that Milo is getting better.:bravo:. |
Glad to hear he is improving. |
So Milo is home his cough is really awful but he seems to be responding to the Meds. He is very fragile and requires a lot of attention but he does sleep quite a bit so that’s a blessing I think it will give him a chance to heal. Any prayers for Milo would be much appreciated. Doctor says his condition is guarded❤️ |

Oh my..... yes, I will say prayers for Milo. Poor guy ... I hate that he is still coughing but it may just take a bit longer for the meds to help. |
Best news I've heard all day. Continuing prayers for Milo and for you |
