| Albumin Level Low Wiley has had gas and loose stools for a couple of weeks. I took him to the vet and his Albumin Level is low at 1.6. I'm a nervous wreck and so very sad. She didn't say whether it was IBS, Pancreatitis or something else. She put him on a medicine for his stools, switched him to low fat prescription food and put him on probiotics. She doesn't want to put him on steroids because of all the other problems the will cause. She did say if his level gets to 1 that I will lose him. Please let me know if anyone else has gone through this.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I’ve only dealt with serious gastritis in one of my pups but the protocol seems similar to what they did for my Bonnie girl. She had to be on probiotics and antibiotics for 3 weeks. She had severe diarrhea with blood and would not eat or sleep. She did get better but I do not know if it’s even similar to your issue. I will send prayers for a full recovery. |

| I never heard of a vet not wanting to put a pup on steroids due to "other problems" they will cause. .... with that albumin I would think he would be on steroids!! It sounds like protein losing enteropathy and she is right...you will lose him if it keeps dropping. Two weeks of diarrhea is scary enough. PLEASE get him to a vet who can diagnose and treat this. My pup was started on IVs and plasma for a low albumin. She was put on prednisone and metronidazole.
