| Is it garlic poisoning? My fur baby hasn't eaten anything in 3 days now, at least. She is a picky eater. Sometimes she skips breakfast or super, some days both, but every night she insists on a treat or two so she eats at least a little. Well the last three days she hasn't eaten anything at all. The last two days we have been spending the night at my sisters house. My sister has three schnauzer. Xena, my yorkie, tries to be part of the pack but she also doesn't seem completely comfortable with them. Most of the two days she follows me everywhere and has been sleeping in my lap a lot. I thought maybe her lack of eating has been from nerves or needing to adjust or possibly distraction.. if too much is going on she doesn't want to eat right away. I have tried giving her their dog food to have a new taste. I have tried wet food and her dry food. I have tried giving her treats, or bread. Anything to get her to eat something. I put milk in dry food. The most she has eaten is two bites of food and some milk. What worries me is she is turning her nose up at foods she used to jump on the back of my legs for. She has also not pooped in these three days but I am guessing that is from no food in her belly as she normally poops right after eating. I was getting worried so i went online and read rotisserie chicken will help their appetite. We happened to have had chicken alfredo last night made with a store bought rotisserie chicken. So I rinsed the alfredo off of the chicken in the sink. It worked... briefly. I got her to eat a small portion of the chicken before she refused any more. The problem is i thought we had cheese alfredo, turns out the jar of alfredo sauce we mixed the chicken in reads garlic alfredo sauce. My concerns are: do you think rinsing off the chicken before feeding her washed off any garlic toxins? Should I be concerned of garlic poisoning? Xena is a 7 pound yorkie so I fear her being small might make it more toxic. But she ate such a small amount I'm not sure its worth worrying over. If I can not get her to eat by morning I am taking her home. Possibly to the vet. I am not sure if this is serious enough for a vet visit. I would appreciate any advice. Thank you. |

| I am getting more worried now. I read dogs generally can only go 3-5 days without food. Today would make day 4. I would take her to the vet (It would be worth going just for the peace of mind) but, as luck has it, today is Sunday so I won't be able to get anyone to look at her for at least another 24 hours. Other than eating she doesn't really act sick but I'm afraid that might change on me fast. She has refused food before but never longer than a day or she would refuse dog food but insist on treats at night. She's never refused everything for this long. The only exception was when a family member was in the hospital she wouldn't eat for two days unless I fed her by hand. That isn't working this time. I think she is hungry because I have seen her go to the other dog's food and stick her head in the bowl but she won't eat it. I haven't heard any noise from her tummy and it feels soft from what I can feel. Last edited by Mistressfreeze; 12-16-2018 at 05:59 AM. |

| My oldest yorkie was like this if we went and stayed some where other then home. It can be stress related and such. Do not give her milk dogs are lactose intolerant. I’m guessing if you took her home she would eat but that’s just my guess. Is she drinking? Is she acting very lethargic?

| When Max or Sasha had tummy problems chicken and rice would always get them to eat a little bit. Try this method: https://www.wikihow.com/Prepare-Chic...-Rice-for-Dogs

| I really thought you might be right. Monday she did poop and ate a small portion of chicken. She even started to play more. We went home tuesday. I keep thinking she's going to eat soon but no, she keeps turning her nose up at everything. I even put a piece of food in her mouth. She licked it and dropped it in my hand. She is drinking water, thats probably how she's kept her energy. She has been home for 2 days now. I did get her to eat some chicken today, more than the rest of the week. (It is the only thing I can get her to actually eat) However, she has been sleeping a lot; most of the day. She plays if you instigate it but she still isn't acting herself. She isn't acting up or begging for treats at night, in fact she's turning away her favorite treats that she had to have nightly or I wouldn't get any peace. I am going to make an appointment with the vet in the morning. Even though she has started to eat a little more she isn't being herself. With the holidays so close I feel more comfortable getting her checked out. Last edited by Mistressfreeze; 12-19-2018 at 11:41 PM. |

It's very good you're seeing the vet bc inappetance in dogs is a sign something is wrong, especially for this extended of a time. It's not unusual for dogs who are away from home to perhaps barely eat for a couple days - but this is beyond that. Please keep us posted on your little one!
