| Temaril P side effects Hi there guys, My little yorkie Gio (age 2) has been put on temaril P for a few days now due to a cough— which may be smoke related due to the fires in Northern CA. I’m not really liking the side effects because s it seems like it’s making him extra sleepy, a little shaky and he doesn’t jump around around as much— muscle weakness? Anyhow, the vet told me I could ween him off of it if I really wanted to because I think he was really having problems from the smoke in the air, despite staying indoors at all times and the air has improved in the house with the air purifier. Have you seen these side affects? Have you weened them off earlier than initially prescribed? Any thoughts or suggestions would be great. I would just really like to see him more back to his spunky self and it makes me feel bad. Thanks guys!! Gio’s mom |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | What problems were you seeing from the smoke in the air..what symptoms? Temaril P is just an anti-histamine with a little steroid. If the Temaril-P is helping with actual allergy symptoms, then I would keep giving it - knowing he'll likely adjust to the drowsiness, most dogs always do. | Thanks for your response! He was having upper respiratory breathing issues that looked like he was having a hard time breathing through his nose. The episodes happened once every fifteen minutes for about an 1.5 hours before I rushed him to the vet. I previously took him to the vet about a week before because I wanted to make sure he didn’t have a collapsing trachea due to a really minor cough he would get once in awhile plus what seemed to me, loud swallowing. The vet examined his throat and did an X-ray and saw his trachea so far is fine. Will his symptoms were really mild back then, I’m keeping a close eye. Then this bad air issue started so she told me to come in and get the Temaril P. Gio has already finished his twice a day dosage so we are now tapering down to once a day for 4 days. I think I’ll just finish the dosage directions even though I’m not a fan of the side affects. She thinks all of this is possibly air and allergy related. Thanks Wylie’s mom!!! |

| Good luck with Gio's cough, and stay safe with the fires!
