| Should I get the Lepto vaccine? I have two tiny Yorkies who have both received the Lepto Vaccine in the past. As one of mine was vaccine reactive as a pup I always administer Benadryl prior to any vaccines given. I keep hearing " do not give these little ones the Lepto Vaccine". Well, it's time to make that decision again and I was wondering if anyone has any info. that could help me decide. I certainly don't want to do the wrong thing by my babies. | Hi Sgbraun19, Have been reading some YorkieTalk threads about this vaccine. A few are linked below; there may be others. Still reading, but there seem many more YorkieTalkers saying than otherwise. See: "Lepto vaccine question" (started 2013) "Should Bailey have a Leptospirosis vaccine?" (started 2012) "Lepto Vaccine Help" (started 2010) Last edited by KatysMom; 05-18-2018 at 06:00 PM. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I would not ever get the Lepto vaccine for my kiddos unless it was considered vastly endemic to my geographic area. Find out the incidence and prevalence in your area - and also consider whether you take your dog around water a lot.

| I live in a high incidence area for Leptospirosis in Illinois, so we get the vaccination for Bella. She hasn't had any problems with the vaccine at all. It looks like Florida may also be a high incidence area. I would go with your vet's recommendation. Here's an article on Leptospirosis in Florida: http://miami.cbslocal.com/2017/03/01...em-in-florida/

Jackson had a horrid reaction to it at 12 weeks old so he can never have it again.
