Where Spay Stitches Were Engorged With Yesterday, our 2-yr old rescue Yorkie, Tallulah, developed a blood-engorged area where some of her spaying stitches had been. It's been 20 days since she was spayed (so we've had her about 3 weeks) and her stitches were removed by the vet 9 days after she was spayed. Things seemed fine until yesterday. She had one large blood-engorged area - I think where her belly button is - and when the vet saw it, he said it looked like blood had just dropped into that area. He prescribed rimadyl for the inflammation and we went on our way. Today there was another smaller engorged area (about 1/4 inch long) which during the day has popped. Now the larger area (about the size of a dime) looks like it wants to split. It's Labor Day and the vet is closed now. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Thanks.

Hope you got her to the vet today and praying she is okay. Why do these sort of things always happen on a weekend or holiday. Please update how she is doing

I'm sorry I'm so late replying. Tallulah's fine. The vet removed the remaining external stitches, cleaned her belly, slid an elasticized sleeve over her belly, placed a cone on her head, gave her a shot of antibiotics, and a prescription for more. Thanks for asking!
