Trachea issues and Adequan Does anyone have experience using this for Treachea or CT? Pros and Cons? Going to vet tomorrow have a video of him honking and trying to get air. Had a Yorkie before that had episodes of CT so know the sound. This Yorkie is very young but wonder if starting him on this would hurt at all. Tks. |
Some people claim it helps, but I am skeptical. Don't think it could hurt. I hope it turns out your pup doesn't have CT. |

An interesting medication that works for some is Lomotil. Here is an article from Kirk's Vet Manual about it (click on the links on the page). You need an RX for it. Index of /lomotil Basic meds that are often used can be torbugesic, hycodan, Temeril P, Prednisone ...and they even use a combo of torbugesic and ace pro for severe symptoms on an as needed basis. If you might be interested in participating in a study of Antinol, message me and I can get you in touch with a specialist who is doing it. There have been some anecdotal reports that is does help with CT. I don't know if it is only for local to Houston folks or if he will do other states. Can't hurt to inquire. |

Yes the breeder is wonderful and known her for 17 years. |
I just meant did the breeder have advice or input on which medication? Not whether or not she was nice. |

My comments are based on years of experience with pups with different degrees of CT. I am not so sure this pup has CT .. coughing and/or honking on occasion is not a perfect way to determine it. There are so many other things this could be. If it were my pup, I would just do a flouroscopy and know for sure what I was dealing with. |
Ahhh very interesting...I guess I figured long term breeders would have input, didn't realize they wouldn't- thanks for the input! |

A good breeder simply isn't going to have experience with such issues. They may have some information but IMHO experience beats reading all day long. |

At this point that is all they have with Antinol...anecdotal reports. The problem with that is that these dogs' symptoms often wax and wane and people can be lulled into believing something worked because the symptoms may have decreased following dosing with the meds. I am pleased that they are considering a study with the Antinol. |
BTW what "scope" is this breeder talking about?? |
