| Monty - Blood on stool (pic) Oh my Monty. I like to call him Monty Boo but now I am calling him Monty Poo as in "oh pooh" when I see his poo ... sometimes. I am perplexed and hoping for your thoughts before I go back to my vet. *WARNING poop pic attached* Monty is giardia and parasite and worm free (YAY). Monty has 100% recovered from his neuter and his attach (YAY YAY) Monty gets ->Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Puppy kibble 2x a day sometimes fully hydrated sometimes just wet down with either a sprinkle of parmesan cheese or crumbled dehydrated liver treats. He also has a bowl of dry kibble always available. -> 1-2 tablespoons of Royal Canin Gastrointestinal High Energy canned dog food (For the fat content, was trying to put some weight on him and also for medications as I used to practically strangle him to get a syringe in his mouth.) -> 1 package of powder forti flora probiotic on his breakfast. -> 1/2 pump omega vitamines -> Treats: fixed amount of time with bully stick, my own dehydrated yam and apple, liver treats. Monty typically has 2 bowel movements each morning about 10 mins apart. And 1 in the evening. The blood on the stool only happens when it is the 3rd bowel movement in either the morning or the evening poop run. It's like only when he is at the very end of emptying his bowel. He doesn't strain a lot but it does take a tiny bit longer to come out than the first 2. When it first happened a week and a half ago, he had diarrhea. The vet put him on meds. He has since finished the medication. His poops are beautifully formed and an appropriate amount for what he is eating. This poop is from last night. It was the third poop on that walk so he had pooped a fair amount. He didn't have a big poop in the morning. In the morning he had the forti flora pro biotics - I hadn't been giving it to him when he was on his meds. He had also had dehydrated yam and apple throughout the day. Not a lot ... maybe 1/4 apple worth and about the same amount of yams. We haven't been doing a lot of treating lately. He is happy. Energetic. Eating well. Sleeping well. Playing well. Has only happened once since his diarrhea cleared up and only on the third poop. I am going to keep an eye on this but what do you think? Have you encountered this before? I have cut out the wet food thinking maybe the fat may be too high? And the forti flora. And the treats. Going to give him a few days and see what his bowels do. Wanted to check though in case someone says ... ummmm - what about??? IMG_6326.JPG Last edited by Jellymint; 04-04-2016 at 04:37 PM. Reason: Added bolding to the warning lol |

| Sounds like colitis. The only thing I can suggest is talking with your vet. It may be the cause just has not yet been discovered/adequately treated.

| I agree it looks like colitis. Given all he's been through in there colitis would not be unlikely & may be that he needs 1 or 2 more rounds of meds for it to heal completely. Also some ProBiotics would deff be of benefit to him but be sure not to give at the same time as other meds, a couple of hrs before or after is best. |

| Be sure the vet sees the pix. That seems like a lot of poop. My Zoey does one tootsie roll poop.

| I've been going through this for months with my Jakey. It's always the poop at the end that has blood. Just talked to my vet again yesterday and he gave me another bottle of Flagyl. He said that he had a GI doc in the office the other day talking about it, and it's a combo factor of stress and fatty food, so the remedy is low stress and low fat food. Of coarse I said, well he's on Natural Balance lamb & rice with a 10% fat which is lower than many dog foods and he said, no he means lowest possible out there and he recommended the prescription low fat Royal Canin. I obviously pushed back because I've heard RC isn't the best quality so he said to try my way than if I saw no results to give it a chance. Which I will of coarse if he gets sick again. But since you are already feeding him RC, I just don't know. I would say that you probably need a script of Flagyl to make him feel better. And don't give him the Fortiflora while he's on antibiotics wait till after as they can cancel each other out. My vet said some little ones have to be on a low dose of antibiotics their whole lives. |

If Monty was a human, I'd have a wealth of information for you. I'm sorry I can't do more than say I am rooting for the little guy!! | |
