| Benadryl??? Buddybear has fleas thanks to a ferral cat who had kittens under our front porch. They are the teensy tiny stick tight kind. I gave him Frontline generic yesterday and he is scratching worse than ever. He WE couldn't sleep last night and I don't want a repeat of that. So I was thinking 'Benadryl'.......how much for a 7 pound puppy???? TIA! Jennifer |

| According to a online dog medicine site it is 2mm per pound of dog. Buddybear weighs 7#. I asked the pharmacist and he did the math for me. 1 teaspoon is just under 14mms and should be plenty. I bought the children's liquid that is 12 1/2 percent. Adult tabs are 25. 1 teaspoon still sounds like a lot for a little dog so I will do some more research online before dosing him. |

| A teaspoon is 5ml, a tablespoon is 15ml. I've given my 7lb dog benedryl pills before, I give her 1/4 of a pill. My vet told me that dose is correct. This website says to divide the dogs weight by 2.5, so 7/2.5=2.8. A teaspoon is 5ml, so I'd give him 1/2 teaspoon. http://culverpalmsanimalhospital.com...s/Benadryl.pdf They also agree with giving 1/4 of a pill for a dog this size. |

| If they are still alive a biting him I feel the Benadryl won't work. Maybe you should try a shampoo that kills fleas too? |

| Ask your vet about giving Buddy bear Comfortis it's a chewable tablet, works for 30 days. It is FDA approved, prevents flea infestations for a month. Make sure it's the one that kills baby fleas, larva, eggs and adults. Tell your vet what you have given your baby, you don't want to over medicate your pup. Speak to your vet before giving him Benadry. What you want to do is rid the dog of fleas, once the fleas are gone the itching will stop. Before using a flea shampoo I would speak to your vet, not all flea shampoos are safe for dogs, if Comfortis is used there is no need for flea baths

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | The dose for Benadryl is 1-2mg / pound of body weight. So for a 7lb dog, it would be 7-14mg....so, 1/4th-1/2 of a 25mg pill.

| At the ER vet said to give him Frontline. He got a "natural flea shampoo" from the groomer then a few days later I gave him the Frontline generic. I just bought the same product for our big outside dog so they will both be on the same schedule. |

| I bought it at Tractor Supply here in town. It's called Sentry FiproGuard for dogs. Contains 3 applications for 3 -30 day apart treatments. Contains Fipronil 9.70percent, other ingredients is 90.30percent. Cost just under $20. Kills fleas, ticks, chewing lice, waterproof. It does come in 3 different weight classifications. I went back yesterday and bought one for our outside dog for her weight size. They have more boxes that are a "plus" but DH was waiting in the car so I didn't look to see what else was in that. The plus was thirty two a box. My groomer said she saw Fipronil in Wal-Mart under a generic name selling for about $18. I saw it online/website......Sorry can't remember the name. |
