A worm in her food!! What to do?

I found a worm or larvae in Moxie's canned wet food (after I had already given her some). I don't know if it's a tapeworm, a heartworm, a maggot, etc, but I am freaking out. Does she need to go to ER vet? I took a picture and e-mailed it to the vet, but she won't see it until tomorrow. Thank you.

Most likely it's a maggot, but the vet will know for sure. Besides contacting the vet and finding out what kind of worm it is, you should also contact the dog food manufacturer and the store that sold you the food and raise H E double hockey sticks.

The thought of a maggot in my dogs food makes me want to hurl. And people wonder why I would choose only companies with tight quality control like Royal Canin.

That is absolutely disgusting. I agree with Phil, after you've contacted your vet I would call the company and raise all kinds of hell. Do you mind posting the brand of food it was?

Make sure you take a picture of the food, the lot # / label, and that maggot or worm.

Most likely it's a maggot.

And OMG MAGGOTS FREAK THE LIVING HECK OUT OF ME TO THE NTH DEGREE!!!!!!

I would call the vet and ask what you should do in terms of whether your kiddo needs to be seen.

If it turns out to be any stage of an insect, will you share the particulars of the food mfg. and product name, flavor, etc., so others can know to destroy/return this food and not unknowingly feed it to their own babies? It would be a kindness. I haven't fed any canned food for a few weeks, still have some in the cabinet, but I'd sure like to know it's not either Hill's l/d Hepatic or Hill's i/d GI canned versions.

OP geeeeze please get you butt back on here and update, it's been almost a week. if you post about worms in food people would really like to know the brand and what the vet thought it looked like.
