| Wheezing & Hard Breathing Hey guys! I want to start this off and say Lilli is FINE now, but we had a scare the other night! I have a new job in a vet's office and of course she does this an hour after they've closed so I couldn't take her to our vets. I always use caution before rushing to the Emergency Vet as well since I have a bit of knowledge to help me decipher what is an emergency and what is not. Anyways, the other night, out of absolutely nowhere she started this AWFUL wheezing (almost like reverse sneezing, but not quite) sound and sounded like she was having a hard time breathing. This happened literally within a minute of my husband and me standing up from the couch to get ready for bed. The ONLY thing I did was blow out a candle I had burning. All natural, no synthetic ingredients in it. Most candles I buy have a lid so as soon as I blow them out I cover them to smother the smoke because I hate that smell. This candle did not have a lid. The only thing I can figure is she inhaled the smoke after I blew it out and it caused her to have trouble for about 20 minutes. I googled and googled and searched and searched and could find nothing about this, so I was curious if anyone has ever experienced this before or knew of someone that has. I've seen the articles about burning synthetic candles in general, but nothing about the smoke after blowing a candle out and a dog inhaling it. It's been two days and she's still A-OK. I'm just baffled! Now I grab a plate to lay on top of this candle container after I blow it out so the smoke isn't wafting in the air anymore. I think she was just in the right spot at the right time where the smoke was drifting because it's never been an issue before. It scared the bejeezus out of us though for the rest of the night even though after 20-30 minutes she was totally fine!

| If my pup had a sudden problem breathing lasting 20-30 minutes I would be VERY concerned. That is a pretty long time. Did you actually time this episode??

| We were very concerned, believe me. It could have even been just 5 minutes or 15 or 1. I just know I left 30 minutes later than I was supposed to because I was concerned about her. She's still fine. Not a problem at all when I took her to work with me the next day. It's just bizarre! Only thing we can figure is the candle being blown out and she took a big 'ol whiff.

| Thanks for posting about the candle. I will definitely be aware of where Dinky is when I put one out! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hmmm...weird. Could be some sort of laryngospasm due to the candle being inhaled. Or a severe / different reverse breathing situation. Does she have allergies?
