| Help finding knowledgable Veterinarians. Hello, My dog's name is Braxton. After getting my dog neutered he had a reaction to anesthesia. My Veterinarian at the the time recommended bringing him to a specialist (LSU) due to suspicion of MVD and elevated Bile acid levels. After bringing him to (LSU) and being charged a small fortune, they claimed that the results where inconclusive and that he does not have MVD or shunts. My veterinarian disagreed with the diagnosis and wanted him to go back to LSU, I brought him to a few other veterinarians for a second and third opinion and none really had a definitive answer. I decided not to waste any more money since he wasnt really showing any symptoms. I have kept him on a perscription Royal Canine hepatic diet just in case there was an undetected issue Even though the "specialist" said that he should just be on a regular diet and not perscription. More than 2 years have passed since,He is now almost 3 years old and I want him to get dental work done, but the thought of the anesthesia again makes me nervous. I want him to see a veterinarian that knows much about Yorkies and the complications that they could possibly experience. I don't want to run all over town spending tons of money without any clear or helpful answers, but I do want to make sure he is healthy. He was under 3 lbs for the first year, but has since grown to 4lbs. Does anyone have any recommendations where my dog will get the best care in the New Orleans/Baton Rouge La Area? any help would be great. Thanks! Last edited by Mybrcc; 02-24-2015 at 11:12 AM. |

| No recommendations but I would listen to the specialist about this. MVD dogs now are only out on diets when they have symptoms. My dog is almost 15, has MVD, and undergoes anesthesia when needed. We avoid any drugs with valium and derivatives.

| What tests did they do? I am contacting a friend of mine and will get back with you on some recommendations for vets. She lives in BR.
