Need prayers for Sully Tomorrow is Sully' s double knee surgery for his Grade 4 luxating knees. I'm sure I won't sleep tonight worrying about tomorrow. Looking for prayers and positive thoughts for my fur baby. |
You and Sully will both be in my prayers. It looks like your surgeon has done many surgeries like Sully's, so he is in good hands. I hope Sully heals quickly and is soon free from pain. |
You and Sully will be in my thoughts tonight! Sophie and I will send lots of positive thoughts and vibes for the surgery and a smooth recovery! |
Thanks. VESH in Brentwood, NH just called a little while ago to make sure I don't feed him anything after 8pm tonight and I just found out that he'll be there overnight. Now I'm really anxious, he's never spent the night away from home. UGH! I can't believe how freaked out I am over this whole thing. I've been crying like a baby all day. |
You are BOTH in my prayers. I know just how you feel. When Jezebel had TPLO surgery, she stayed overnight. Even though I missed her and I worried, I knew she was in better hands than mine at that point, and that she was with experienced people that knew how to get pain under control before she came home. So try and look at her night away along those lines. The long recovery is very trying, but it is so worth it in the end. |

I definitely understand and would be the same way. With my Rainbow Bridge babies, I only once after they stayed overnight together for the first time after a spay left one of them overnight, and it was so difficult for me. With their baby sister, she came home after her spay. With Katie now I find it difficult to even leave her home alone, so I'm worse than ever. Despite that, your animal hospital has 24 hour care, and they will probably be able to handle his pain management better in the hospital. I hope that helps you to leave him there overnight. I'm sorry this is so difficult for you. When you see him feeling better once this ordeal is over, a heavy weight will be lifted from you. Hang in there, and please remember that we care and are here to support you. |
Prayer coming Sully's way!!! |
Praying for Sully and you. |
I know how scared you are but try to think how great the odds are in Sully's favor that these surgeries are done by the dozens daily at vet clinics and hospitals without any problems at all. Try to just tell yourself this surgery will improve his comfort level and quality of life and concentrate on staying busy from the time you leave the vet's clinic, going to work, the gym, the mall or home - cleaning the house, doing laundry or shopping - whatever keeps your mind and body busiest. It's the loneliest drive in the world when you leave your furbaby for surgery and drive away and you will second guess yourself 40 times on the way - probably even cry - but hang in there, before too, too long you'll get the call that the surgery is over and Sully is waking up!!! Please post as soon as you know his surgery is over and let us know how he's doing as you can. |

Don't worry. Sully will be fine. I had to leave Barney for two nights when he tore his CCL and he was 11.5 at the time. Try to just relax. The place sounds good with an experienced surgeon. They do this everyday all day. It's a big deal to us, but to them, business as usual. I'll be looking for you update tomorrow! |
Best wishes for your little buddy- and you too! Time for some hot cocoa and a snuggly blanket. Prayers your way :hearts6: |

When it's all over, every time you see him run like the wind, you will be so thrilled and glad that you did this for him. Jezebel's surgery was on one knee. |
Praying for Sully's surgery to go easily and he heals quickly. Please let us know how he is when you are able. Hugs to you. |
My thoughts n prayers are with you both. |
The surgical nurse just called, he's under and they are working on the right one now and said that now that they're in there his crucial ligament is torn as well, they needed my permission to fix that as well. I guess that's more involved and of course more money. I told them to do what ever they have to do. UGH! my stomach is in knots. Thanks all for your thoughts. |

Thoughts and prayers for both of you. |
Gigi, everything I'm reading online says that the total knee replacement involves removing the meniscus and the cranial and caudal cruciate ligaments. From this source: http://surgery.anzcvs.org.au/surgery...re%20Liska.pdf "TKR is a menisci plus cranial and caudal cruciate sacrificing procedure so removal of a potential cause of postoperative complications (menisci injury) and an apparent inflammatory mediator (CCL) are eradicated." (This sentence starts at the bottom of page 2 and continues on to page 3). I would get some clarification on why it's being "repaired" if I were you. |

We're praying. Let us know the moment it's over and hang in there. You aren't alone in spirit - we're here. Hugs. P. S. What is it about the profile of a Yorkie's face that just rips my heart out every time I see one? I look at Tibbe lying in his big den window looking out at his world and my heart just melts and I don't know why I almost choke up. He looks so little and vulnerable there outlined against the world. Takes me back to when my little Jilly used to lie there in that same spot on her pillow and I'd just sit here by the minute and watch her in profile and wish I could keep her forever. |
Ok, just got the call, surgery is over. The left knee had the torn ccl too. He explained further that what they do is take out the damaged part and then use thick nylon suture to repair and then the scar tissue that grows around it acts like a replaced ligament. Recovery will be a bit longer. 6 weeks of strict cage rest. 4-5 months until full recovery. They're gonna show me the 3x a day physical therapy tomorrow. Glad it's over. |
Oh, relief! I'm so glad is all over. Good news and now the scary part is behind you. Try to get some rest now. |
I'm so relieved that Sully's surgery is completed. I know this is heartbreaking for you, knowing your precious boy has gone through all of this. But you have given him a chance to have a great life with no physical limitations. I hope one day you can post a video of Sully running and playing. I will continue to think of and pray for you and Sully. |

I do hope that you continue to update us on his progress. I don't recall anyone here that ever had total knee replacement on their dog, so anything you could document here would be very useful to someone else that might go through this in the future. Hurdle one is out of the way, next hurdle will be to bring Sully home! |
Glad to hear the surgery is over. Our prayers go out to you for a speedy rehab. |
1 Attachment(s) The hospital sent me this pic of Sully in his "hospital bed" all snuggle and warm on a warming blanket. They said I could call anytime during the night to check on him. They are really so nice at this place. I feel like I can breathe a little. Thanks to all of you again, I really appreciate the support. |
Sweet Sully Thanks for the positive update,so happy he is doing well. He looks so happy and alert after all that trauma and I am sure he will be well taken care of so try not to fret. Sleep well, and soon he will be home with you. Praying for a speedy recovery. Hugs. |
