My late Molly had a few medical problems, and it was discovered that she had Mediastinal Lymph Node cancer. This was between her heart and lungs, and does affect the breathing. I pray that Charlie will be ok.

I would talk to the vet and tell her you are very scared to know that something terrible could be wrong with Chester. Ask her to please explain things to you so you will understand ALL of the information and whether there can be a next step. 1. what is this mass? Can they tell you from just the ultrasound or will a biopsy be needed? 2. Once you know what it is, you can find out if it is treatable. 3. What is the treatment (if it is treatable) and what is the prognosis and cost of the treatment. What will Chester's life be like after treatment? It is never easy to weigh all the information and make a decision for our pets. But, I know that you will make the best choice for him. Having trouble breathing under anesthesia when fluids are being run may not mean that he will be in trouble just yet. Try to take it one step at a time...stay optimistic...all you can do is make the decisions as best you can with each step. Please know that there is no wrong answer! You will know what is best for him once you have more information from your vet. Keep us posted.
