dog Oh also on metrodiazinol |
Just spoke with the vet. The CPL came back negative. His levels on the bloodwork were low, but just below normal. He is getting X-rays done now. She is thinking IBD or cancer... I will update when I find out more. |
OMG I hope it is not cancer! At first I was thinking pancreatitis as well, sounded just like when Uni had a bad bout of it, but her bloodwork levels were pretty bad. I hope it's nothing and Couver feels better soon. |
My thoughts and my prayers are with you and Couver. I'm so sorry you are both going through this. |
dog I am praying for Couver to recover from this. I cried for a month hoping Spud would get over his illness. It was touch and go. He lost so much weight. If it is pancreatitis, it can be taken care of. It sounds like that to me. |
I'm praying hard that he does not have cancer and that he will be better soon. Hugs! |
dog I couldn't give Spud chicken. Had to do the fish to get the most bland diet with no fat. I bet Hills zd would work for him like it is for Spud. Sounds like a stomach issue to me. |
Just seeing this. Gosh, I hope Couver is ok. What levels were low on his bloodwork? Will say a prayer for him and for you. So upsetting when they are ill. |
I'm sorry to hear your baby is sick. I will send a prayer your way. |
Michelle praying real hard for Couver. |
Alright, we just got back from the vet. They did X-rays and see that it looks like the entire intestine is inflamed. I am having the X-rays sent off to get a second opinion as the vet recommended it. She thinks it's IBD, but we will get more information tomorrow once the specialist is able to take a look at it. They sent us home with a bunch of medications to help control his symptoms. I just gave him liquid Panacur, he will get Sucralfate in 2 hours and then Metronidazole in 2 more hours. I am going to go do some research on what each of these medications is for and hopefully he will start to feel better soon. I am really crossing my fingers that it's not cancer. I guess we will know for sure tomorrow. He is starting on a gastro wet food tonight and we will keep him on that as long as we need to. |
Sending lots of healing thoughts and prayers for sweet Couver and you. I sure hope whatever it is it can be cured so he will feel better again. |
Michelle, the reason I asked about his blood count is because his symptoms sound a bit like possible PLE. You see GI symptoms and the blood work often shows protein loss. (You mentioned something in the blood being low) There are four causes of PLE and IBD is one of them. When there is inflammation in the bowels, the only true way to diagnose is with a scope and biopsy. Here is a link with information: Intestinal Lymphangiectasia My Cookie has PLE...she has both lymphangectasia and IBD. She has been stable for a bit over 3 years now. I was fortunate to catch it early...the protein loss was the key and my vet suggested a specialist who did a scope and biopsy. So, we knew exactly what we were dealing with. I hope that you can find out exactly what this is quickly and get Couver on the road to recovery. It may just be IBD, but if the blood work showed something...I am wondering about the protein loss. |
I may be off base, but in case not, here are a couple of links about pups who have had PLEs. The first one, Lisstette/Manolos Mom's pup Lola took some time getting the right diagnosis and she was extremely ill and almost died while the vets tried to figure it out. Thankfully Lissette found a vet who figured it out. I believe they first thought it was lympthangectasia but it was actually histoplasmosis. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...g-me-nuts.html Then, this thread which you may have seen is my Cookie who was diagnosed in Dec. 2011 with lympthangectasia and IBD. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ia-update.html It is great that your vet is seeking the opinion of a specialist! In Lissette's case the first vet didn't do that and the poor thing was SO sick. |
I don't think I got a copy of his bloodwork. I will call tomorrow and find out exactly what levels were low. I am curious now. Thank you for all the information. I am going to go read those links right now. Thank you, thank you! |
