YT 500 Club Member | Toby topples over... Last night when I was done steam cleaning I went to pick up Toby and soothe him a bit because he's terrified of the steam cleaner and had been hiding under the couch. I picked him up and I took him outside and when I put him down he fell over. He won't put any weight down on his back right leg. I looked him over, felt the good leg, felt the bad one, couldn't see any difference. Checked for stickers, swelling, cuts, blood, anything... couldn't find the cause. It's 24 hours later ( more actually) and he is still 3 legging it everywhere. He doesn't cry out or pull back when I touch his leg ttrying to locate the problem, so it's still a mystery. How long should I wait to have the vet check him? Or should I just take him in tomorrow instead of waiting ? I've made soft ramps out of body pillows for all the high places and he is using them thankfully. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Vet time; today if possible tomorrow if not. I also would either crate him or use an Xpen. No jumping etc. How old is he?

YT 2000 Club Member | dog ASAP Yorkies little legs can pop out of joint and he may need to get that put back in place. Really do not allow him to jump off things. Go get little stairs and train him to use them. Maybe the vet needs to put him on some Chondroitin-Glucosamine. My Spud takes Dasuquin for that problem. I hope you get this resolved really soon. |

| Agree, must see a vet! You really cannot tell what is wrong by examining him yourself. What I will say is he is in pain.....they do all they can to hide pain. If he is carrying that leg, it hurts! Something is wrong. Good luck and please keep us posted.

YT 500 Club Member | Well, I took him in that next day and we had to sedate him because he just would not let anyone near his leg to figure out the problem. But they took xrays and he has a slight tear behind his knee. I have to keep him confined and mellow as possible for the next 6 weeks . otherwise it will wind up having to have a $1500 surgery. This is going to suck. But oh well. I went and bought a kennel and different harnesses and all kinds of stuff today. He's gonna feel like hes being punished with all this restriction. Poor kid. |

| So sorry to hear about Toby's tear. An xpen and a carriage are great for restricting movement while keeping them close. It is a challenge to keep them restricted because they just want to play and are used to masking their pain and then they look at you with their soulful eyes you just want to melt. Best wishes and prayers for a smooth and speedy recovery.
