| Red Hard BIG Hairy Lump on Neck, PLEASE HELP Hey everyone I found this almost dime size reddish thing on my baby's neck (like the side part, almost throat) tonight and am freaking out because I can't make it to the vet until monday without paying a large sum for weekend service. It's slightly raised, still very hairy (though lighter colored hair), and almost seems like simply a large scab (it's hard to the touch) except that she would have had to bleed like crazy given its size and there's been no blood anywhere. She also hasn't really been in any situation to hurt herself. Also, there is no like incision or anything. No like tears in the skin or anything. It's very weird, pretty round. I attached pictures. Other medical history: she's 4 lbs, snorts a lot when walking, and vet noted once she had high potassium levels I just don't know what to do! I am in college and don't want to take her to a weekend vet for a lot of money I don't have if it's not necessary but if it's a tumor or something I'd gladly pay the fee. Please any information or advice will help!!! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | You'll be okay waiting until Monday, so don't worry about that part. It could be a "hot spot" - does it look like one? It's hard for me to tell from the pics. But if it's red, flaky, kind of scabby - then it's likely a hot spot, which is really just another name for an infected skin area (ie, pyoderma/bacterial infection). If you think it's that, put some antibiotic ointment cream on it a few times a day. If it's an actual hard lump, it could be a cyst or something, many of which are benign. Also check her armpits, inside legs, tummy, near base of tail etc for any other red areas that would indicate a more widespread pyoderma.
