Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Car seat injury :( Just a head's up to others: So we were traveling and left the dogs strapped into their carseat when we stopped for breakfast. Came back to find Eddie favoring his left front leg. I'm assuming he got the strap caught and hurt himself. Gave him some Rimadyl and his condition improved. He's about 50 percent 20 hours later and I'm not planning a vet visit if he's all better by tonight. Not sure what the solution is. A crate would make the most sense. At the least, I think I'll unstrap if we stop like that. Has anyone else encountered this? What's your solution?

| Poor Eddie. We have had some car seat tether tangles. Having 2 dogs in one seat seems to make things worse. Separate seats are a little better. If you are stopped, and you trust your dogs not to leave their seats and not climb around the car, untethering is ideal. That is what I do when we stop on errands, although someone always stays in the car. That might be the only reason M&T behave and stay in the seat. I hope Eddie's leg feels better.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Thanks. Yeah, it was a doublewide car seat for both dogs. In retrospect, I think I will unclip at stops.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Thanks for the concern, everyone. As I suspected, it appears to have been just a soft-tissue strain. He was running around today like nothing happened.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Good to hear that Eddie is back to his self after his injury. Thankful is was minor. My only incident was with a safety harness. I only left Ruby in the car for a total of 5 mins as I stood talking to a friend in her driveway and it was like Houdini. She escaped out of that thing as if it had melted off of her.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Glad Eddie is already feeling better, yay! Thanks for posting about this bc I too will now unstrap if needed. I wonder if you shortened the tether a bit more, would that help in preventing tangles too?

| Glad to hear Eddie is better. We very rarely leave ours in the car (traveling we use drive thru places or places where you can eat outside) but if I have to I leave them strapped in because I'm afraid they will get out when I open the door.

| Thats my fear as well, that they will scoot out of the car as soon as I open the door . could be very dangerous depending on where we are at. I dont use a carseat however. I have tethers that attach to the seat belt . Although this is mainly because I just havnt found a carseat I like yet.. I want to get one though. Part of the problem I have with the tethers that attach to the seat belt is they dont shorten enough an they can still jump on the floor, but then have difficulty getting back up due to the tethers. Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I dunno the best solution. I'm a little paranoid now. With a one-dog seat, I would feel a little more comfortable with them both on a shortish lead. But with two dogs right next to each other, I'm thinking it would be easy for them to get tangled and hurt. And OMG, if one caught on the other's neck, it could be disastrous!
