update bo$$ 1 Attachment(s) So my last post he had bad diarrhea and was vomiting and shaking! One vet basically took my money didn't do anything for my puppy expect tell me what I already knew and gave flagyl! I took yt advice and went and saw another vet who I love soo amazing and knows about yorkies we did his testing for parvo and its negative and all his other test are negative! Since the vet gave him a nausea shot he's been fine! As of today he's back shaking he's not vomiting or having diarrhea but he refuses to touch his food today, I don't know if he's because he knows I'm leaving for work or what but he just looked at it and came and laid down at my feet What should I do? I thought last night maybe his sugar was low and gave him a little karo syrup but not too sure vet keeps saying he's fine |
Your pup looks very tiny, he really needs to eat frequently (as in every 3 hours or so)or there's a good chance he'll become hypoglycemic. It could be detrimental for him. Did you try simmered chicken breast or chicken baby food? |
Your post got me to thinking about when I brought home my first yorkie. He was only 1-1/2 lbs and he didn't want to eat. If I just placed it on the floor he would look at it and walk away. I literally had to sit on the floor with him and hand feed him. It took longer to get something into him but it worked. Eventually he started eating on his own. But you really need to get him to eat, syrups are usually for emergencies. Good luck.... |

First I would go get Nurtical. It has a lot more then just syrup Ingredients: Corn Syrup, Soybean Oil, Malt Syrup, Cod Liver Oil, Cane Molasses, Methylcellulose, Water, Gelatin By-Products, Dl-Alpha-Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Sodium Benzoate (Preservative), Manganese Sulfate, Ferric Ammonium Citrate, Thiamine HCI, Niacin, Calcium Pantothenate (Source of Calcium and Pantothenic Acid), Magnesium Sulfate, Pyridoxine HCI, Potassium Iodine (Source of Iodine and Potassium), Riboflavin 5'-Phosphate Sodium (Source of Vitamin B2 And Phosphorus), Vitamin A Palmitate and D Supplement, Folic Acid and Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12). |
If the dog is not eating then it needs to be back at the vet. Dogs this small can quickly dehydrate and that can progress fast and before you know it the dog is in trouble fighting for its life. How long has it been since eating a meal? Did the vet draw blood to check his labs? |
I have a little finicky guy. Galen was almost 14 weeks and only 2lbs. I know the problems. I had to sit with him and make sure he ate. The things I would do to get him to eat a piece of dry. I would break it. Sometimes he would want the big pieces. I would mix two types of dry food. Sometimes he would want one type and sometimes the other. I would try a little wet food mixed with the dry and put in in a saucer. I even ground up the dry and mixed it with the wet. He is still picky. But I found he loves primal Freeze dried food. I have three different types and he gets a different one each day and dry in the morning. Also try to stay calm. They feel your frustration. And it makes things worse. Good luck. If you need anything pm me |
Repeatedly feeding Karo syrup to your puppy can set up a cycle of rebound hypoglycemia. If the puppy isn't eating, you may want to try a syringe filled with a very loose wet food ( I liked Wellness canned puppy) to help get a small amount in to him. I believe Royal Canin also makes a mousse consistency wet food. If you don't have a syringe, put a small amount on the tip of your finger and place it on the roof of his mouth. The act of him trying to get it off the roof will cause him to swallow some. Others have already told you how quickly these little ones can go down hill. If you don't feel your vet is being responsive enough, than you need to be more proactive and find a vet who will help you. Now. Not later because that may be too late. |
Just getting there sugar up is not enough they have to eat protein or there sugar will just drop again. If this puppy is having issues it should not be left alone or you could come home to a puppy who is having seizures or who died from there blood sugar going to low. |

Talk to the vet. They also have an appetite stimulus to give them. . . But please don't wait. Even if you go to the store and buy Caesars dog food. . . As long as you get him to eat. Big hugs please let us know I just saw you talked to the vet. Great ! |
