| Are flea meds safe for 6 lb yorkie poo? Which brand do most use? My puppy gets sick every time I put the stuff on her back...she's listless for a couple of days. Also, heartworm meds- best product. I want the 1-10 lb brands but my vet keeps suggesting the other. HELP? Also...vaccinations. I said no to Lepto and my vet was furious. Brought two other vets in to convince me. I need some help. |

| Change vets! We follow Dr Dodds protocol... and we use Revolution for HW and fleas. I measure out the dose specific to each dog's weight.

| Perhaps Lepto is prevalent in your area? That is something you really need to find out if you have not already. Maybe your vet is very concerned about your pup getting Lepto?? As for the flea preventatives, I used Advantage for years without any ill effects. I use Heartgard for heartworm prevention....a couple of my pups are on Sentinel. You could use that and it would cover heartworms and fleas.

| My dogs have been getting lepto shots for nine yrs with no reactions I'm not saying yours definitely won't but not all dogs do. I use advantage and my vet even gave me the cat version of advantage when my cat was pregnant because he believes it is the safest.

| Deuce had reactions to three different heartworm meds and the flea and tick treatments also had suspicious reactions. He is doing very well on Revolution (heartworm and fleas and some ticks) for dogs 5-10 pounds. He weighs 6 pounds now. We have not had any reactions to the immunizations but I do not give the Rabies vaccine with the others.

| Check for prevalence of Lepto in your area.....if it is a problem in your area, you need to vaccinate against it. I would have the vet premedicate with a shot of Benadryl, wait 20 minutes, vaccinate, then stick around the vet office for another 20-30 minutes, in case baby has a reaction to it. Some vets use the 7 way vaccines which include Lepto, and they are just not willing to use another vaccine....I had a vet like that and I did change vets for that reason. I persaonally will NOT deal with any vet or doctor that becomes infurious with me for any questions / concerns / objections etc that I present to them.....I pay these people to educate and informe me about my pets health care or my own, and I expect questions and concerns to be addressed intelligently, and responded to appropriately. They can take the time to explane why they believe one way and what is wrong with what I am thinking. If I still do not agree with them, I change doctors, but I always make certain I have ALL my facts in order. I believe to less meds we put into our babies, the better for them. I use Revolution and Sentinel and Canimax, alternating each drug season to season so there is no resistance built up against any one of them....each of these contains heartworm, flea, some ticks, intestinal parasites, Revolution also kills ear mites for people that take their dogs out into public where they may come in contact with dogs that have mites....I have never had any issues with my dogs taking any of these meds. and they effectively cover anything my babies could come in contact with. | Lepto is a treatable bacterial infection... I choose not to vaccinate against it. I know Mercola isn't popular with many folks on here, but their info on Lepto is similar to all I've read and their description of how the vaccine works is better explained than on other sites. Symptoms and Treatment of Leptospirosis
