Winter Congestion?!? Princeton has been congested a lot more this winter. Last night, in the middle of the night, he started coughing up phlegm and I think it's from his sinuses draining. He's also snorting a lot more and when he does his little reverse sneezes I can just hear how stuffed up he is. It seems to especially effect him when he goes outside and then back inside or when he's getting up from laying down. I am wondering if anyone else has pups that are experiencing this. He does have allergies...but usually they aren't as bad in the winter. He's not itching or anything...it's just congestion.

My pups have allergies and are sneezing all of the time, but definitely not anything like what you're describing. If he's coughing up phlegm, thats definitely not normal and I would definitely take him to the vet asap to make sure that it's not pneumonia or something because that would need to be treated immediately. Good Luck, hope you can figure out whats wrong with your pup.

We have an appt with the vet. I am fairly certain it's not pneumonia though. He's not "coughing" like a dog does when it has pneumonia...the spell he had the other night was more like he was trying to hack something up that he had swallowed wrong or that got caught in his throat or something. I guess you could say he had the dry heaves and the only thing that came up was white foam. He hasn't done it since....But what is is doing more often is snorting and when he does his reverse sneezes, you can just hear how stuffed up his nose is. He snorts and does reverse sneezes mostly when he gets excited, btw. It seems like it's increased since he's put on weight as well. We did wean him off his heart medication recently(Vetmedin). Perhaps that has something to do with his increase in congestion as well. Last edited by theporkieyorkie; 12-17-2013 at 10:54 AM.
