I think my almost 4 year old Yorkie may be leaning towards trachea problems, but I pray I am wrong.

This is a girl who never barks. I decided to tape her while out one day, (she is seldom home as my parents grand dog sit alot too),
and was horrified at all the barking and panting she does.

So, when I read these sites it says to keep the animal calm.
Now I worry about being gone constantly, as this surely cannot be a good thing for her to carry on like this.

It sounds like she is doing OK, and I am so glad to hear that.

You might try rolling up a tea towel and let her use it as a pillow. also, children's Benadryl maybe 1/2 cc 2x a day could help her. I had a tiny little guy who came to me with Kennel cough and an internest finally got him through that but a year later his trachea collasped in 2 places as a result of the KC:-( The great part was that he never knew he was sick he was 2&1/2# of total spunk. I know your Molly is a love from what you've said about her. Also, if your vet is an internest maybe he could give you some dexamethosone to have on hand to give her an injection if she starts going down on you again, I used it on several occasions, but it would have to be at his/her discretion. I would have lost him w/o it. Plus I was able to get o2 for him and used that on occasion. It was a labor of love, but I'd do it all over again for him. He lived 4 years and passed with a heart attack, thank goodness it was quick. Good luck with your baby, hopefully some of this is helpful for information for you if nothing else. Oh, a nebulizer would be good too. I don't know where you live, but she's best in a cool enviornment...not cold, but hot weather is bad it seems.

Molly had Xrays and I was able to view the collapsed trachea--it flattens out as it nears the thoracic area. It is the inoperable kind, as I was told by the first Vet, but you always hold out hope. Also, her heart is really enlarged so she is now on heart medicine. I believe all the prayers from this group have helped her. She is such a little trooper- you would never know she was sick. If I mention the word "Walking" those little ears stick straight up and she is ready! How lucky I am to have her for another day or another year.
I pray for all the little Fur Babies with health problems. This forum has really helped us.

Sorry to hear about Molly, and everyone else's poor doggies. It is so hard to lose something that you love. I just found out today that my puppies mom has a mild case of collapsed trachea when she gets excited. I am wondering how old dogs usually are before might show up if my puppy inherited it? I just wanted to say the information on this website as well as the people who care enough to help are wonderful, can't say enough about what I read here! Thanks.

What are the best foods to give (he is on Wellness for small dogs as well as Core Wellness) and what are the best supplements to give? I am planning on Truman having a very long life and want the best info available. Thanks!
