I'm sticking with the rx food because she requires it. I did get her to finish it by hand feeding her. With her tummy full of gas I assume she is very uncomfortable.

You might want to back off a little bit...digestion can be hard for them when their pancreas is inflammed. We always feel that they should eat, but sometimes they just need rest. I hope she is feeling better soon. Poor baby.

So sorry your baby is ill. I have two on RC prescripts. Make it taste better with Smiling Dog Kibble Seasoning by Herbsmith. Also have another who gets normal kibble but is soooo picky. He doesn't do any complaining since I started sprinkling his food with the seasoning. ~Joanne~

In a dog with a confirmed case of pancreatitis, I wouldn't not be pushing any food. Your dog's body likely knows better than you do what he can handle and if he's turning away from food, his tummy is probably still upset. As long as your little guy is well hydrated, he can go a day or two or three without food if that's what it takes for his pancreas to settle down. My little guy has had somewhat of a chronic pancreatitis issue. When I do start feeding him after an acute episode, I start with several very small, very bland meals per day and see how he tolerates it. I generally give him only a bit of boiled white potato, mashed well, with a very small amount of boiled chicken breast every few hours and increase the amount each day. If he's tolerating the potato/chicken well after a few days, I then switch him to the Royal Canin Gastro Low Fat. His vet has me give sub q fluids at home until he's back to eating well to make sure he stays hydrated. Depending on how severe the pancreatitis is (Did you have the Spec cPL? What was the number?) it can take weeks for the pancreas to completely heal and during that time a dog is very susceptible to a relapse. He should stay on a bland, low fat diet for at least the next several weeks. Hope your little guy is feeling better soon. Pancreatitis can be very scary and is nothing to fool around with.

She is uncomfortable because her pancreas is inflamed. Pancreatitis is very painful. Hopefully your vet sent her home with some pain meds.

I didn't get the blood test numbers. When I came in to pick her up the vet came out to the counter and said her values were quite high indicating pancreatitis. I was just coming from a dr's app myself and feeling quite ill.

Well I hope she's feeling better for you this evening. When my little guy has a flare up, just 24 hours without food and he's well on the road to recovering and wanting to eat.

Unfortunately, Zoey must eat something at night or she will vomit bile in my bed before we get up. This is kind of a catch 22. Should give her tummy a break and have to give her something to keep from having it empty. I just washed my feather blanket today so she will probably vomit on it in the morning. Oh well, I have nothing better to do if I have to wash it again. It takes four hrs to dry the thing.

Poor you, I do understand how concerned you are about your baby. It is natural for us to feel bad when they will not eat. Sorry to keep bringing up my dog, but we have been through bad times when I felt helpless and worried about him. He had the throw up in the early am even without pancreatitis and the vet prescribed Pepcid at night and a small meal before bed. That worked very well. When he recently got the horrible P the vet suggested Pepcid at night and in the morning as well. That also did the trick. He is 10 lbs and takes a 1/4 of a 10 mg tablet per dose. Perhaps just give enough food to allow him to take the meds. I use the canned food to wrap the pill in.
I feel so sorry that you are also not feeling well and know that it is harder to deal with a sick dog when you are sick too. Hang in there, take care of you too, and soon things will look up and you both will feel better. Hope your baby does not throw up again and that you are not having to wash the bedding again. Life must seem pretty frustrating and stressful right now and I feel for you. Hugs.

What meds did your vet give you for Zoey?

Usually with pancreatitis, rest and fluids are in order. They also usually give Reglan or Cerenia and pain meds. Did he do any of this? I just looked back and did not see any mention of these things. If she is still having pain, I would take her in again for him to take a look. Pancreatitis is very uncomfortable and they really can go downhill quickly with it.

I think she said Zoey was on anti nausea meds for several days, don't know about pain meds.

She was only diagnosed two days ago. I realize she was on an anti nausea drug prior to that...wondering what was done for the diagnosis of pancreatitis made on the 14th.

I see what you are saying. In post 10 I got the impression that she was on Cerenia prior to the most recent attack? Perhaps for something else? But I don't know, I should have left it to the OP to answer. My bad.
