I pray the chemo will help him. By any chance did they do an xray of his lungs? Sending out more prayers for Buster. |

Poor baby...it hurts me to hear his cough...they think it is irritation due to enlarged tonsils. Hoping the meds kick in soon. |

I'm so sorry that Buster has lymphoma, I was so hoping it would be something else. My little Roxie got it at 4 years old after I had only had her for a year. I nursed her along for 3 months after the diagnosis. Hopefully little Buster will have many happy times in the coming months. Near the end I let her eat anything she wanted--mostly ice cream & liverwurst. She never stopped wagging her tail! Bless you & Buster. |
Buster is so very blessed to have you for his mom. I'm so very sorry to read the outcome of his tests. There are so many of us praying for Buster to live the rest of life out comfortably, happy and loved. And to give you the strength and peace that you may need during that time. God bless Buster and you. Gentle hugs to you both. |

Sending more hugs & good thoughts your way! I love Buster even though we've only "met" virtually. Next time you shower him with kisses give him a few extra from all of us. |
Lisa, you know I am with you at this time. Buster is one lucky dog for having found a mom like you. I know you feel lucky as well. I hope he has a long time left before he has to go to the rainbow bridge. Please give him hugs and kisses from us. If there is anything you need, please let me know. xoox |

I have a small update on Buster. I talked to the vet about 4:00 and the pathology tests confirm that he has lymphoma. There appears to be a B and T type of lymphoma, with B being better. He does have the B type, which responds better to treatment, so that is good news. However, he does have some involvement in his spleen, which is not so good on the news front. She gave me the go ahead to give Buster his prednisone medicine, but asked be to hold off on the chemo medicine until tomorrow morning. Hopefully, both of these will start helping improve his nasty cough. He returns to the MedVet Clinic in Cincinnati next Thursday for tests and more treatment. I don't know if anyone has ever had a pup do chemo, but I am learning new things. One is that I need to wear gloves to give the medicine and toss them in a double bag to get rid of. The other is that Buster needs his own little area to potty outside. I thought about this and decided to take an xpen out in our backyard, so he would have his potty area, and Piccolo and Vivi could not access the area. Thanks everyone for your support during this very tough time. It really holds me up. Much appreciated! |
Lisa, I am so sorry and saddened to see this. It's comforting to know you're a part of Buster's life, someone who loves and cherishes this sweet boy. Please know my thoughts are with you and your family. Sending prayers your way Buster. ;) |

Another small update... Buster has now had one treatment and I think it is helping. He barely coughed this morning compared to yesterday where he had a coughing spell that went on for over an hour. Right now he is taking a nap and looks like an angel. |
That's great news! I how scary a coughing fit can be for a pup and their human. I'm so happy that his meds have seemed to calm his somewhat. :) |

Lisa I am so very sorry I know we talked earlier over pm. I am just now getting to your thread. I hope that your boy has a few more months of happy and very well loved life with you. Just on the gagging and or coughing, that can simply be caused by swollen lymph nodes; they can get so huge!. And yes the chemo can work wonders. You have my Zoey thread and all the things I did to help entice her to eat. And for sure for your wee once, even mincing up very fine could be a good option. Zoey for awhile like little meatballs, but mainly she loved being spoiled and hand fed. Hugs to you and Buster ((( ))))) |
Happy to hear Buster is comfortable for now, and may he have many many more good days still. He is so lucky to be in your loving care. |
Sparky is still with us & it's been 13 mo since his diagnosis. He is still doing well & his same crazy little self. We were told 6 mo to 2 yrs is average life expectancy for lymphoma with the majority between 12 to 14 mo. We also contacted a holistic vet & had him on supplements & diet during his treatments to help with side affects of the chemo & I believe is why he did so well. A couple of things to keep in mind, #1 have plenty of Metranidazole on hand & #2 Cerenia. The only problem Sparky had was one of the drugs can cause colitis & the Oncologyst only gave a Hamster size dose of Metranidazole:confused: So it was not enough to keep him comfy, once I figured that out & called my reg vet & we upped the dose, he was like new in just a couple of hrs. Every pup responds a little diff so if there is a problem with vomiting or yucky poos, Call the vet ASAP to see if you can adjust the dosses for him. |

In the food area...Right now Buster is wanting food all the time. Hopefully, he will be like this for awhile. His favorite things to do are to eat and take a walk. Quote:

The Oncologist did give me some medicine to give to Buster, if he starts vomiting or has diarrhea. (I need to look at the names of the medicine.) So far, he is tolerating the treatments well, and we have not had to give him anything. Buster has kept his appetite, so I think that is a positive thing. |
Keeping Buster and you in my thoughts and prayers. |
I am happy to hear Buster is tolerating the treatment well and that it is already helping to alleviate his cough. Continuing to pray for him and you. |
Lisa, I am so glad to see the chemo is working to help alleviate Buster's coughing. That must be a huge relief for you. It's also great news to see that Buster has an appetite and enjoys walking. :) You're brave little man will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. BTW, I love your Avatar, Buster looks so handsome in his Hippie vest! ;) |
