Julia has a spider bite??? Julia, our German Shepherd, got up this morning with what looks like a spider bite. DH just left taking her to the vet. After looking up pictures of brown recluse bites we are afraid that is what it may be. She is 11 years old and an indoor dog. But, she is a daddy's girl. He was out working in the yard all day yesterday and we think that is when she was bitten. Please say a prayer for our sweet, sweet Julia. Thanks to everyone who reads this. |
Sending positive vibes to Julia  I just saw a television show about the brown recluse last night. I know their bites can be serious. I hope she recovers quickly. Please keep us posted! |
Thank you, Teresiana! DH just called because he knows I'm worried sick and said they are shaving around the wound to get a better look. But, yes, I will keep you posted. :) |
I hope Julia is feeling OK and they get her on meds to get that bite healed....I DETEST spiders....absolutely terrified of them. Saw something on TV last evening where some lady called 911 because there was a hugh spder on her couch....she was terrified and could not kill the thing, so she needed someone to come out to kill the thing....my brother was appalled..."Who would be silly enough to call 911 over a spider????" WELL, HELLO!!!!! That would be ME!!!! It just makes my skin crawl, thinking about that nasty spider BITING Julia..... |
Praying Julia is going to be okay. Those spider bites can be so nasty. Poor girl. I'm like Judy - hate spiders now that I know the damage some of their bites create. Ugh - plus they are creepy to look at. |
Just checking in to see how Julia is doing. |
The vet shaved around the area to get a better look. I was shocked at how large the area is with red hot fever. Julia doesn't have a fever. Thank goodness. Of course, the vet could not say what bit her. But there are 2 fang marks. She is taking 2 anti-biotics...1oral and the other we spray on the wound 3 times a day. She keeps licking the area. So we pick up a cone for her in the morning. :( Thanks for the prayers. I ask that you contunie to pray. She is almost 12 years old. I just don't want anything to happen to her. :( I hate all things that crawl especially SPIDERS!! And one bit my sweet girl! So ready for summer to be over. :( |

Glad to know she's doing okay :) In the documentary I was watching last night, a man who had gotten bitten by the brown recluse looked like he had some kind of flesh eating disease. Within just a few hours! That's one of the reasons I got so worried when I saw your post. I'll keep Julia in my prayers for a speedy recovery. I have an 11 year old Lab so I know how concerning it is when something happens to them. Feel better, Julia!! |
She seems to be okay. She has mainly just slept a lot today. Which isn't unusual for her at all. It pretty much looks the same today, too. The site hasn't gotten any bigger. But where the fang marks were looks like a tiny, scooped out area. I'm so scared its going to be like that show you watched. Please keep praying for her. Thank you so much! Just having someone to listen about these type of issues helps me to stay grounded and not freak out. Do you understand what I mean? |
Oh, poor Julia. :( I hope this heals soon. Will say a prayer for her. |

Oh wow! Just now seeing this. That sounds EXACTLY like a brown recluse bite. So scary! Continue what you are doing and watch her. I know those bites can kill tissue ( like the scooping out you mentioned). They can also cause neurological issues. If you see any signs of that, get her back to the vet asap. Praying!! |
My prayers are sure with her, hope she heals quickly. |
My Teddy Bear was bitten by a brown recluse at the beginning of August. We got him to the vet right away because we spotted a spot of blood about the size of a quarter on his leg. The vet said she could tell it was a brown recluse bite by the appearance and because it was a large red lump that was hard below the skin. The lump was blood red in color and it looked like a blackish area about the size of a dime in the center that was bleeding. The vet squeezed cottage cheese-like stuff out of it and we think the venom was squeezed out too. We were really lucky the venom hadn't had a chance to spread. It was really scary. It was completely healed in 10 days. I pray that your baby will be ok and it wasn't a brown recluse. |
Checking to see how Julia is today...better I hope!! |

I'm sorry I haven't replied sooner. We had a pretty bad storm come through and had one of our trees fall on electrical lines. Our electricity was out for about 6 hours. Julia, is doing okay. The wound still looks very red, but not as hot with fever. The hole that looks like it has been scooped is turning black now. This was Day 3 or Day 2. I get so confused....no Day 3. But the hole isn't bigger. Its very tender though. I can tell she isn't feeling well. She is eating and drinking though. Hopefully, will look much better tomorrow. Thank you for all of the prayers and I ask if you will continue? |
Still praying... |
Continued prayers for Julia... |
Keeping sweet Julia in my thoughts. Glad you have your power back! |
Day 4 Picture 1 Attachment(s) Here is a picture of Julia's spider bite today. Today is the 4th day and its still not scabbing over yet. Does anyone know if that sounds about right? The hole seems to get a little bit bigger each day. The bite is only slightly warm today. Thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers. :) |
I'd ask your vet. When does she go back? My prayers continue for Julia. |
Wow that is really red. Teddy bear's spider bite was looking better right away. We took him back to the vet two days after his bite and it already looked better and the scab was forming. As you can see from my pictures the redness was already better by the second day. I would try to get the vet to look at again ASAP. Did the vet squeeze any infection out when you first brought her in? I think that helped Teddy Bear but don't know for sure. Please post a request for prayers in the sick and injured section. I'm hoping for the best outcome for Julia. Hugs.... |
