| My orthopedist recommended Dasaquin. It contains glucosamine. Gew |

Doubtful she will get any benefit from glucosamine. I would keep her on the Rimadyl and Tramadol and rest her leg .. usually IF they are going to improve, it will happen in a few days of the meds. If not, then the specialist is where you should be!!

| I was not suggesting that Dasaquin was in place of a specialist. We give Dasaquin to all our dogs over 5. It is a supplement to help keep joints healthy. Gew |

I know what it is....and any evidence I have seen that it does anything helpful at all is purely anecdotal. I don't bother with it personally.

| Mine did have a luxating patella. I new right away sinething was wrong when we were in her walk. Took to first vet and was sent to another one who verified the problem and then to surgery. I was so glad she had the surgery. Healed. Beautifully. No problems after that. |

| Why can't anything be done? The dog is still growing, and if in the process of growth, this problematic part can misfit and can no longer be helped by surgery. He'll be left with a limping disability. |

| Luxating patella isn’t a disability and really isn’t supposed to cause pain. Fixing LP in an adult dog isn’t a great idea because there is already wear and tear on the CCL while can tear and require another surgery. These are rough surgeries to recover from. If the CCL tears then I would recommend fixing the knee at the same time. Many many dogs live perfect healthy happy lives with high grade LP and never have issues.

| Please if you haven’t already take him to a orthopedic surgery to get treated do an X-ray. My Yorkie and I were on a little walk when notice she lifted her leg. My vet sent us to an orthopedic vet and so glad she had the surgery. Spent the first night close to her and gave her pain meds. Had her in a crate when not at home, and close to me when I was at home. She did beautifully and so glad for her and me that she did not have to suffer with untreated torn knee. |

| Go to a vet to get a full assessment. Don’t guess if your not a qualified vet and not everyone on this site is not a licensed vet. |

| I’m not the original poster…… I’m not a vet but I am a certified vet assistant and have experience in LP.
