| Suddenly change...help please My 9 week old baby just suddenly tonight changed. He won't play, eat or drink, He does not even want to go outside, he just lays in my lap or in his kennel. He has not been vomiting and no diarrhea, stools appear normal. I thought it may be that he sugar was low (I read that was very common in yorkies) so I gace him just a a tiny bit of syrup but have seen no change. I have also been worried about him not drinking so I gave him some water with a syringe but still no change. Any ideas??? I am so worried but don't wanna rush off to the vet in the middle of the night, not sure if I'm being over paranoid, since it just happened suddenly this evening. I'm new to the site and could not find a thread on this subject (it's probably out there but I just can't figure out how to find it. Thanks so much, I hope someone has some idea of whats going on with my baby until I can get him to the vet. |

| Hi just found your post. Hope your baby is doing better an you got him to the vet. 9 weeks is pretty little to be away from mom, so syrup was a good move. |

| Get Nutrical to treat hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), or rub Karo syrup on his gums. Watch for dehydration. Since he is so young a vet visit would be advised. Even hypoglycemia or dehydration can lead to organ damage, and certainly a vet could see if it is anything else. Little ones can go down fast, so don't wait and watch too long.

| I would most definitely get your puppy to a vet. It could be parvovirus. Good luck, I hope your pup is feeling better soon. |

| Hope you got some Karo Syrup, local honey, Nutrical or something on that baby's gums and got him to the ER Vet ASAP. Any change in the behavior of a puppy as you described warrants emergency care ASAP. Update us what the the vet said when you can.

| Oh, and anytime I am so worried because a puppy or dog's behavior is dramatically changed in some way so that the little one is essentially dysfunctional, I always do rush off to the vet and let him take it from there. Better safe than sorry.

| Small breed puppies can go down the drain rapidly....you need to get the baby to a vet....it is difficult for us to diagnose this over a computer....and if we "guess" wrong, and that is what it will be, a GUESS, it could cost you the life of your baby. He is too young to be away from his momma anyway, so he needs to be seen by a vet ASAP for possible treatment! It is not uncommon for little babies to sleep most of the daqy, but if this behavior is a big change in the pup, you need to have the baby seen. |
