Hypoglycemia???

Not sure if I am posting in the right place, if not...I apologize in advance. My Millie is 5 1/2 months old. She weighs a little over 4 pounds. Her growth has slowed down in the past month or so. She was gaining a pound every month at first. She has had these episodes on and off since she was almost 2 months old. She gets weak, wobbly, and sometimes can't get up. I give her nutrical, and she perks right up. One time I gave her some kayro syrup too, and she perked right up. I have spoken to my vet, she says as long as she perks up....she is ok. I have looked for a pattern to look for causes of these episodes of illness. The only thing I have found is that they always happen in the morning. I feed her every three to four hours through out the day and leave some food out for her at night. I can not leave food available at all times, because she will eat until she throws up and eat some more. I left her food out for her at first all the time, and in those two weeks... I was constantly refilling her bowls and cleaning up vomit, so my vet said to feed her meals frequently instead. These episodes may happen once every two weeks, once a month, or once every month and a half. I am really confused. Does anyone have any advice for me? Other than these sporadic episodes, she seems happy, playful, and sweet as can be. I want to do what is best for her, so any advice is greatly appreciated.

Max's growth slowed at about the same age and then he had a couple of growth spurts before he reached 1 year of age. I wouldn't be overly concerned about that.

When you give Nutrical, follow it up with a little regular food as soon as she will take it.

Has she had any blood tests done? If not, I would ask for some basic tests to be run, including BATs (Bile Acid Tests). Fecal test.

Any other unusual symptoms? Poops okay? Does she ever vomit yellow bile?

No other symptoms of any kind...no weird poop or bile, etc. The vet said if it continues she will do some tests, but she feels it is something that Millie will grow out of. It is just scary when it happens. Thank you for reply to my question!

hi there, has the vet done a hgt in the rooms? thats a glucose test. very simple to do, they take a drop of blood from the ear and place it in a glucometer on a glucostick and you have a result within 5 - 30 secs. Ask your vet to do this first thing in the morning. Thiscwill determine the glucose level. Vomiting can also be a sign of hypoglycaemia.(low blood sugar) as can be the failure to thrive. I am pretty sure this can be treated, or managed effectively.

She is old enough and big enough she shouldnt be having these episodes anymore her liver function needs to be tested

How long does she go without eating over night? Eight hours? If she's only had a problem in the morning after not eating over night, I'd think she went too long with out food. I'd make sure she ate really well right before bed, and she eats as soon as you wake. Or leave a very small amount of kibble out for her to eat over night- like a snack. I use a teaspoon to a tablespoon of karo syrup in her full water dish too. (The dish is a small cat bowl). That seems to help. If it isn't helping her, it's helping me by making me think it's helping her-

They do need to eat every 3 to 4 hours when their young. Like your vet said, as long as she perks up...but if Anything else happens, or the episodes become more frequent, get her in to the vet.

Mine could never go long without food or she'd end up in a low BS episode. We've outgrown it some what. Last time her BS was low, she was 8 to 9 mo. old., she's now a year old. The weather has been very hot and humid lately. I'm watching her closely to make sure she's eating. (it's so hot that I don't want to eat! I'm sure she feels some of that too).

Also, when it is so hot, they can become dehydrated and the combination with low blood sugar can be deadly! Keep her hydrated!

I agree, there might be something more going on!

Thank you all so much for your advice. I think that I will go ahead and ask the vet to run some tests instead of waiting until she is older.
