Daisy had both types of crystals sodium oxalate and struvite and the vet put her on royal canine SO as well. I made sure I also gave Daisy distilled spring water to drink. I took her out to pee every 2 hrs just to make sure she was emptying her bladder.
It took Daisy about 4 weeks bf I noticed her getting better and she did have incontinence while she had the crystals. I hope Cooper is feeling better soon

Just seeing this Karen, I glad to see you've found a vet you trust with Cooper. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. Praying he'll be feeling better soon!

Thanks everyone for your support. I'm really hoping the new food is what is causing the constipation. I put him back on Fromm for dinner and he pooped 2x. Hopefully he will clear up and everything will be ok. I'm wondering if I should try not to "adjust" him when he wakes up "stuck". Gosh I just keep thinking of the visual the vet provided me with this afternoon. I said "OMG please stop. ewwww." But she was all about the education, visualization and the comparison of whether or not he was truly erect.

I'm so sorry to hear Cooper has been unwell, Karen, and I'm just seeing this thread now. All possible healing vibes for whatever condition he has and that he will be feeling better soon. ((((((((Vibes)))))))
And some "reversing the 'what has been seen cannot be unseen'" vibes for you, as I can imagine that would be a difficult image to delete from memory. 0_0
(((((((Hugs))))))

I'll be sure to think about the kidney disease and discuss with her when I see her next week.

Cooper pooped just a little tonight. Gosh, he's usually such a good pooper. The vet also mentioned that Cooper has never had x-rays before so it's possible he's always had an issue.
That is a good point about being the first xray..without a history to compare to who knows what is normal for your boy.

I don't mean to imply that Cooper has kidney issues... I just meant to say the licking and erection could be related to bladder infection. In Sammy's case that lead to the discovery of the kidney disease but the vet said there were other possibilities...such as the stones or infection etc.

Yes I understand. I do feel this vet is going in the right direction wanting to view his bladder. Hopefully she will be able to view him better on the next X-ray.

How about an ultrasound? Momo had x-rays done & it didn't come out too well either, couldn't really see if his bladder & kidneys were clear, but the vet was sure that he didn't have any stones in there.
I'm just baffled as to why the 1st vet thought it was struvites. Hope Coop will be ok.

Cooper will take another x-ray and then an ultra sound after that. I don't believe my new vet received the records as of yet from the 1st vet so I'll stop by there Friday and pick them up. Cooper has been pooping much better since I put him back on Fromm so I'm hoping his system is clearing up.

His "lipstick" was stuck in the out position. This happened 3/4 nights and off to the vet we went. It was time for his annual blood work so we did all blood work and a urinalysis. Everything came back normal except for struvite crystals. The vet did not put him on antibiotics, but we switched his food to Royal Canin SO. The vet didn't see much correlation between his erection problem and the crystals.

It's now almost 2 weeks later and he's still having erections (although not as often) when he wakes up in the morning and I have to help him. The vet thought it possible that a dog was in heat nearby, however we just moved about 5 miles away and I don't believe that's the case.

I'm going for a second opinion Thursday to a new vet who comes highly recommended. Cooper appears completely fine except for random mornings. He's eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom with no issues. He's lively and as always, full of energy.

Any input?
My Dexter has 'erection issues' almost everyday! He's been the vet a couple times bc it concerns me, but it never gets stuck in the out position. However, after getting his neutered and not going away, bloodwork and other tests run, there is nothing wrong with him besides he's just an 'excited' boy (vets words!)! He is almost 8 years old and this still happens daily.

Is Cooper just excited now for some reason? Maybe to see you in the morning? My Dex gets this problem usually when I get home from work, he just gets so excited that out it pops and he has to spend 10 mins or more licking until it goes down.

We are going to rule out anything medical and then she will contact a behaviorist if need be. I said I catch him in the mornings licking himself because he's uncomfortable. So we are going Wednesday. I'm dropping him off in the morning for a day at the vet.
Yup, this is basically what the vet told me about Dex... except he is FULLY exposed! My hubby and bro think he's a lucky boy! (very well endowed!) LOL My poor baby... he loves me something fierce!

No. More. Visuals.

I caught Cooper humping a new pillow yesterday. I have never seen him hump anything. Ugh.

LOL My Dexter does not hump ... well I can call him a half-hearted 2 pump chump when Fletcher is nearby ... but its not a sexual humping... neither of my boys ever went through a humping phase. Fletch I never even saw 'the tip' of his junk... but Dex... I've seen it ALLLLLLLLLL and then some! UGH poor little guy. My mom always feels so bad that he has to stop playing with the other dogs because he gets excited and it comes out!

Cooper is at the vet now. He pooped enough over the past couple of days for the vet to clearly see the x-ray. Unfortunately he has stones, but she says they are little and he should be able to pass them. However, some of his bloodwork is out of whack and they are now giving him an ultrasound to check out his pancreas. He's going home with an anti-inflammatory, possible antibiotics and new food. And I'm going home broke. I'll keep everyone posted.

So sorry to hear Cooper has problems. I sure know about the growing broke problem. Hopefully he will pass the stones and the new food will help him to get back to normal. Nothing cheep about owning dogs! I'll keep you both in my thoughts and prayers!
