| ![]() I bet you are excited awaiting your new fur babe. Yes reading here on YT is very helpful with advice and support. Great that you are doing so in advance! I knew so little when I adopted my first Yorkie and YT was a valuable find, and I learn more and more each day. The people here are so kind and understanding too. The only problem is that YT can be addicting. LOL! Looking forward to seeing pics of your new baby and seeing her/him grow. |

| ![]() update on Sammy.... he went to Dr. G this morning and had his one week check up on his eyes. He is having some reaction to the lens that were input during surgery, the vet gave him a shot to help the enzymes start working in his eyes. This will also make him start to see again. We used Animal Eye Consultants of Iowa for our vet. They are out of Cedar Rapids Iowa.... a very professional group. They are so kind, caring and skilled. So glad we found them. Our vet was Dr. Sinisa GROZDANIC. I can't pronounce his name so we were told to call him Dr. G ![]()

| ![]() Thanks for the update. Sorry about the glitch with the lens reaction, but it sounds as if that is being taken care of by your specialist. All looks very positive now and reducing the meds will be a relief I am sure. It is comforting that you have such great vets and facilities who can deal with whatever comes up. Hope Sammy gets to see well soon and can more easily enjoy his walks. Good luck on the next visit! |

| ![]() Glad to hear that Sammy is doing better. My Phoebe had 1 cataract removed on 4/23, and is down to prednisone drops 4x per day. I'm hoping it will be cut down to 3x daily when we go for her 4th visit next week. The first two weeks after surgery were really hard with the med routine & the cone, but it's easier now. Unfortunately, Pheobe's eye was too small for the artificial lens, so they couldn't use it. The Dr said she will still see much better than she did with the cataract. Phoebe & I are keeping Sammy in our prayers for continued improvement & smooth recovery.

| ![]() today is day 10 and Sammy is doing great, what a relief. He is enjoying his walks and really wants the cone off... but not yet. Dr G said we can take the cone off on Friday. I am sure he will be happy but if he gets too active then I will have to put the cone back on. Just taking this one day at a time. Sammy is such a trooper thru all this.

| ![]() update, Sammy had to go back to his regular vet today.... he has an ear infection, so it is back on the antibiotics.... can't put any washes in his ears (only a prescription drop) because he is not allowed to shake his head and the washes will make him shake his head. Poor baby.. the ear infection could be due to the cone per his vet that did the cataract surgery. The cone comes off tomorrow, but we will still have to watch him so he does not try and scratch his ears and possibly hurt his eyes....

| ![]() Poor baby, sorry he has the ear infection to contend with too. My boy had ear infections too when he was on the cone regimen after the cataract surgery. My eye vet said he would be more liable to get infections due to the prednisone that wrecks the immune system. I also believe the cone encourages a damp, still, environment where bugs and fungus thrive. Fleas also were on his head with the cone, even though he was on Frontline. Never had that problem before. As he had the cone on for so much longer and was also on prednisone for some time, it seemed he was always sick with something. We could not get his vaccinations for the same reason until about two months after the prednisone was done. This post op regimen has some disadvantages! So happy that Sammy will have the cone off tomorrow, but as you say, you have to be more vigilant to keep the eyes safe. The good news is he can now see well again. He is well on the way to a complete recovery and you must be so relieved the worst is over. Hope his ears get better soon, these infections really bother the dogs. My boy went off his food when this happened, I think it made him nauseous. |

| ![]() Update: It has been three weeks since Sammy's' cataract surgery. He is doing so good and I can say without a doubt that it was one of the best things we have done for one of our furbabies. Yes, it was alot of work, worry and commitment. But seeing his progress over the last three weeks has been worth every minute. He is still on meds three times a day and I am not sure how long he will need them but I don't really care, he can see.... ![]()

| ![]() What wonderful news. It is amazing he is doing so well and that he can see!! It is your love, care and devotion that has resulted in this happy outcome. It is not an easy recovery regimen, but as you say, it it so worth it to have Sammy well and seeing again. Soon the drops will be done and you and Sammy will be back to normal life again. Thank you for the update and joyful news. |

| ![]() I am very happy to hear Sammy can see and that he is recuperating so nicely. Hoping his ear infection has cleared. This thread is a great resource for everyone whose dog will have cataract surgery. Thank you for updating.
