I don't know if this will help you, but sedation for tests is really not all that bad. I have had so many pups tested and operated on with multiple medical issues. I don't know what Daisy has; but I would trust my vet if they said it was safe to do. I had a pup with AAI, hydrocephalus, subarachnoid cysts, syringomyelia, chiari and other things that defied anything I have ever seen. In one year he had four operations that were emergency in nature and he had a dental. He was fine after each procedure. I don't think any pup could have a whole lot more than that! Sedation with an up to date veterinarian is very safe. |
Well for what it is worth -- The therapy was very helpful in Barney's case. As Linda said, the anesthetics are so safe today. But, if the hunch is that this isn't a partial tear but a stretched ligament then perhaps conservative rest would work out. I rested Barney after his first surgery and made a huge mistake in over confining him. It took months of therapy to recover from that. The other thing that I did that was very helpful was place cheap yoga mats from the dollar store on my tile and wood floors. The traction really helped him to not stress that joint. |
I agree that PT can be very helpful, but personally I would want a diagnosis first. That's just me. |
Thank you for your help and I am going to really think about what is the best thing for Daisy. I appreciate every ones concern and I know at times there are going to be differences of opinions on this subject. The main thing is to do what is best for Daisy and do whatever it takes to make it easy on her. I really like the idea of yoga matts on the floor. I went out and bought her a 90.00 orthopedic bed and she likes the 30.00 bed I got at tj maxx lol My Vet said to give her another week and do a recheck and we will go from there. Tonite she is walking on it and acting like it isn't bothering her. It is only stiff when she first gets up but she is also 9.5 yrs old.. So again thanks everyone! |

So glad to read the update and agreeing with Linda that if that little one is walking on it, probably no tear occurred. That is wonderful news if that's the case. Hopefully, it was a strain/sprain and will heal with time and rest, medication as needed. Good news. I know you are feeling much more hopeful. |
Yes she is walking on and even runs on it, I have to scold her not to run and it is when she runs that she starts limping again. I was relieved today when the vet said that she really thought it was a stretched out ligament and not a tear but she did say that the only way to be sure was the ultra sound. |

Thanks for asking, Daisy is doing well no limping and walking fine, today she jumped on the couch to see my grandson, so I said to my grandson hang on to her don't let her jump. Welll...........I quickly ran over to her tripped and Daisy jumped off the couch bf I could stop her.... Well I fell to the floor on my bad knee Daisy was fine................ ...............It was such a sight for sore eyes! lol At least Daisy is ok:) I about had a heart attack when she jumped. |
Oh goodness. You need to stop that jumping. She's still healing and this is a good way to re-injure. Do whatever it takes, if you have to cover the couch and chairs in tinfoil and put cardboard boxes all along the edges or tether her to you to stop the jumping. It's awfully critical right now while the ligament is still unstable, weakened. Keep up the good work healing, Daisy girl. And behave yourself, Miss Daisy! I'm thrilled to hear that sweetie is no longer limping and hurting way less. I so love good news about Yorkies' health!!! |

Daisy seems to be improving every Day the Vet doesn't even think she needs physical therapy. We started light walking and she is doing fine. I only take her about 5 min and we go back in. She trys to run and I don't let her. She gets so bored. I feel so bad for her. |
