Sending prayer and peaceful thoughts your way......lifting Tibbe up in prayers of healing! May peace be with you..... |

So concerned about you as well af Tibbe....have you heard anything yet from your vet? |
Jeanie just now seeing this and sending prayers for Tibbe. I know he is your heart. Praying its nothing serious. |
I am so grateful to you all and Tibbe is going to be okay. Once again, his fecal, urine, bloodwork and heartworm tests all WNL - no elevated liver anything no nothing. I told the vet I was so certain that this time he would have something show up due to his pattern of this happening so often, being better for a while and then so sick again. She said she could palpate nothing in his body and his tummy was now soft and nontender. He ate for her, he drank and he was grouching at them to let him out of his cage. I had to wait forever to see her as they were so busy - had had emergencies and then Tibbe come in without appointment so it was late before I got out of there with his medicine and new food and then I had to go by the pharmacy and wait at the call-window behind 3 cars to get my prescription and now home. Just gave him his medicine and he's in my lap now. Thank God and thank YT and the vet. The vet and I had a long talk over this long history of these bouts and she said she is pretty sure his "grazing" outside is doing it and he's got a "sensitive" tummy. She put him on 10 ml. K-Pectin po q 8 hrs and a low fat diet, saying she wanted to see if he did better on easier to digest food and less fat for 2 weeks. She wanted to put him on Royal Canin Low-Fat but he had itched so badly the last time we tried the RC GI that she put him on Hills I/D Low-Fat, 1/4 cup twice daily and I may use a little extra for his "treats". She says that she treats little dogs with tummies like this all the time and it is just a matter of trying to keep them from eating things out of the yard and try the Rx foods until we hit on the right thing for a while, then try a regular food again and see. I told her I don't think there is that much stuff in my yard for him to eat except what the occasional cat or squirrel or bird brings in but if there is anything, he will manage to find it down in the grass and be eating it before I even know it. I can't help but worry that something is going on with him but she swears that if it were, some blood value or something would be showing up by now and almost promised me he's not really gravely ill somehow and that dogs really can have tummies like this. She said if this doesn't work, we'll try another food. In a way, I feel like I over-reacted so badly but in another, I am still worried. I so wish we could get to the bottom of what is going on but I am so grateful to hear his labs are all okay I could faint right now. I was so happy to get him back in my arms okay and not bad sick I just cried like a fool when I got outside the vet clinic! Am certain anybody that saw me thought I was crazy as a loon or had just lost a dog. And Tibbe was in his little carrier whining because I was crying and we were both a mess. We got in the truck and I let him out of his carrier and the little guy just kissed all the wet tears all away and just looked at me so long right in the face. I told him what a precious baby he was and thanked him for coming home to me and he just stared back at me. So after a while back he went into his carrier we drove off to get my prescription and now are thankfully home. I am so grateful for all of your support and being so sweet. I'm so happy but still worried and so hoping the Rx and the food will help him. So sorry to scare everyone but it just seemed that he'd been having such a pattern of this for so long, I was just convinced it had to be something dreadful going on and that finally it was manifesting itself as today is the first time he's has such a thin diarrhea stool with so much mucus. And the way he was just standing with his little head hanging down, even after Pepto and with those loud gastric sounds. But, apparently he's not very very ill and is hopefully going to be okay. I don't know how I'll bear it when the day comes he does ever get really ill. He's just one in a million dogs - I have never had another one like this who does everything he does with an extra flourish - and the thought I could possibly lose him was just racing in my head. I know - I'm crazy but you'd have to know him to know he's extra extra extra special. I apologize - I shouldn't have made it sound so dire but I sure thought this time it was going to be, especially when they kept not calling me and I was too scared to call them!!! But they were just very busy and I did take him in late. All I can do is beg off for being a scared fool and thank you as graciously as I can for caring. All your sweet posts have me crying again - and I don't cry - except over dogs and soldiers - and your sweet hearts for sending such touching thoughts. I thank you so much for being there, YT'ers. You each are "Tibbe" people to me - extra extra extra special. ♥♥♥ |
Prayer answered! Bless your heart and thank the Lord! |
Jeanie I am glad Tibbe is ok. I can understand your concern you are good Mom and he's lucky to have you:) |
So happy he is home. :) :) |
Girl please!!! You have NOTHING to apologize for. I would have been the same way. These precious babies steal our hearts with their love and trust. I will continue to pray for Tibbe. Hopefully, everything the vet is doing will help him. Hang in there momma...he will be okay. Here is hoping both of you sleep peacefully tonight. :) |
happy to hear you and Tibbie are ok....:) |
Rather safe than sorry!! Overreact and it is nothing, no harm done....sit on something that is major, and you KNOW how that can end up....you did the right thing....ALWAYS, opt for "over reacting"!! Did you think to remember to mention about the Heartguard maybe a possible antagonist? I am just thrilled that precious little smiling baby is home with his momma, on the mend! Thank you God, for prayers answered! You always are hanging around, just waiting to help us when we call out for help! Thank you Lord, for that..... |
Poor little guy. He's still not himself. He's got hiccups, is growling a lot at sounds he hears and will get down from my lap and stand across the room looking at me. He did finally eat some food and got his piece of kibble "treat" for eating dinner and is back on my lap. But his verve and energy seem totally lacking. That's the way he was this morning, just listless and odd. Now he's growling at me - that whiny growling with the tip of his tongue sticking out. Better go and see what he wants. Thanks again, you guys. |
Oh no.:( I was hoping this was over for him. JMO, yes, it could be a yorkie tummy thing. I personally would just do the bile acids test to make sure. Liver enzymes are not always elevated when their is a problem. Some gets (including jy own) don't/didn't know this. It has been happening way too long to not check. |

Tibbe has surely captured my heart, and it always hurts me to hear that he is ill. Your stories of him have brought this little character of yours to life for me, far more than a character in a story. I feel like I really know him, and I have grown to care about both you and Tibbe. I know you will take extra care of your sweet boy, but please take care of yourself, too. With your love, protection, and wonderful care, Tibbe will get better very soon. I am counting on it. |

i know many fets don't recommend if liver values are normal. Mine didn't. i had to request it. Glad I did because sure enough they were out of range. Tibbe's may be perfectly normally, butit is worth a check. If normal then I'd lean oward what your vet is saying...idiopathic tummy troubles. |
I am happy to read that Tibbe is home again with you tonight, but I agree with Crystal - I would at least ask for that bile acid test to be done. Why not, right? I never saw - did you mention to the vet about giving Tibbe his heartguard yesterday? I still think that maybe that triggered something (not necessarily that the heartguard is bad but with his sensitive tummy, maybe he isn't handling it well or something). Just something I would also mention if you haven't. Praying that the meds at least settle Tibbe down some for the night and you both can get some rest. Hugs! |
I am so glad litle Tibbe is doing better. These Yorkies can get very sensitive stomachs. Are you writing down every time you go to the vet what meds he gets and why. I keep a running record on my Yorkies illnesses and vet trips. Otherwise I would forget when and why I took them over the years. I am going to say thank you prayers for Tibbe tonight! |
I'm late to this thread, but just want to add some vibes and prayers for Tibbe. I know how you feel about him, it is the same way I feel about Jenna. You and I could both be found crying when we get our babies home from the hospital! I hope whatever is ailing him is sorted quickly and he can get back to being the happy and healthy Tibbe that we all know and love. :) ((((((((((Huge hugs)))))))))))) for you. xxxx |
I am late in seeing this thread and am so glad to see isn't something awful and scary. Bless his sweet heart....I hope he is feeling better quickly and I'll say a prayer. I think we all understand going into panic mode when one of ours is sick. Hugs to you! |

I also beginning to wonder if somehow, besides his tummy problems, that Heartgard yesterday afternoon had an extra strong dose of medication in it - or, gulp, had another medication in it! Or he's got liver shunt or something like that and the ivermectin just kind of poisoned him. He was awfully kinetic during his obedience work last night - overdoing everything and surging into every trick before I got the word out - hyper. Very hyper. And then this morning his tummy and other sx. and tonight acting like he does after anesthesia to some extent. All in all, I think it is past time for his bile acids test. Well, he's sleeping soundly now so I'm going to stop watching him and try to get a nap. |
Oh Jeanie....your poor little boy - and poor you too, you must be SO worried. How is he this morning? Sally x  |
I'm just seeing this. I'm so sorry Tibbe isn't feeling well. I'm glad he's home and that everything so far is negative, but same as I tell my patients...go with your gut. If you feel like something is wrong, stay on the doctor. Keep having him checked until you are confident he is ok or until you have found the answer. Prayers for you and Tibbe! |
oh Jeannie, I will be praying for your little Tibbe and hope you get some concrete answers, you are smart to follow your gut no one knows your baby better than you. |
Glad Tibbe's back home! I quit using Heartgard.... I didn't like the way my dogs were acting after getting it. One thing I really hate about it is the dose is for 1-25 pounds, if your pup is on the small side, that's a lot of product, when there are others available that have less of a dose, like 1-10 pounds. Peek A Boo used to get hyper, bloodshot eyes, and just not acting right, and it seemed like it was getting worse each time he took the stuff. I think too they can develope a sensitivity to any product over time, so I always watch and evaluate their behavior with anything they get, each time they get it, be it meds, food, treats, grooming products... anything! Hope Tibbe continues to improve and best of luck with any further testing you decide to do. You did tell the vet he had just had his Heartgard? |
Wishing only the best for you and Tibbe today |
I would not use that heartgard. I used Revolution on my dogs last year and had no problems. Of course I am in California and we don't have the real bad bug problems some states have. You have to use what works but I would be very cautiious and read all the reviews before I choose a med. Little Tibbe needs to have his stomach rest from all that and just chill awhile. I am glad he is better. It is scary being at the vet and not at home so I am sure that is why he is acting unlike himself. Yorkies are very smart and perceptive. He wanted to be home with you! |
This may be a good time to do it...when symptoms are present. Ellie took HG twice. She did fine, but she was ever-so-slightly, very unnoticeably off. I prefer milbemycin for her. Remember, even on the off chance that the test is abnormal, it does not necessarily mean liver shunt. It may just be MVD or something. BtW, one of LadyJane's dogs had perfect labs and had a shunt.. It is much more common than people think. Your description of his symptoms is a concern. |
Jeanie I'm so sorry. Just now seeing this. I'm so glad Tibbe is ok!! Hills I/D was a life saver for my Rosie. That's what we use as snacks between her home cooking. I know lots don't like Hills but IMHO the I/D was the best thing for my Rosie when she so desperately needed it. |

He did sleep the night and ate his low fat breakfast this morning, drank and has pee'd. He's had his K-Pectin and his little mustache is covered in that stuff - he hates it and spits half it out before I can get his muzzle up and rub the sides his throat lightly. I give only a little at a time in the side pocket of his mouth to be sure he won't aspirate it so it takes quite a while to get his whole huge 10 ml. dose down. We got to 8 and I stopped for a while and let him rest. Now we need to go wash his face. He's been a good little patient though and won't fight me until that liquid starts to go in his mouth and then he just mostly moves backward and spits. |
Hey Jeanie, if you see any of these "not quite himself" symptoms/signs today, break out a video recorder and capture it to show the vet. As you mentioned, he seems to act differently at the vet versus at home. Might help..dunno. Still praying for that little guy! |
