I agree the ear bleeds a whole lot, so why and how it went unnoticed is a mystery. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with her, hope all goes well with her procedures. Keep us posted...she's such a beautiful little girl...and she'll still be that same beautiful little girl when healed. |
Gasp! So sorry Jillie's losing part of her ear.:( It's surprising that she'll still let you touch that part of the ear...nothing bother's her, what a strong brave widdle girl! |
I have nicked Khloe's ear slightly a couple of times while grooming her and it is not something the stops bleeding without pressure... I cannot imagine that this happened at home and you did not see any blood. I have a feeling it happened at the groomer's, she stopped the bleeding and decided not to tell you because she felt bad. I don't know... |
Mike, I've seen someone cut a smaller spot in an ear and it bleed like a stuffed pig. But after 2 hours of pressure held onto it.... The vet glued it and while the glue didn't hold the cut together it probably held in any extra bleeding. I'm so sorry this is happening tho yet glad she is getting some relief. Prayers and thoughts your way. |
Mike, I'm so sorry this happened to your precious Jillie. :( I'll keep both of you in my prayers for a safe dental and ear surgury tomorrow. |
Looking forward to hearing Jillie is home from the doctor. Keeping her in my thoughts and prayers today. |
Hope all goes well today! |
Praying all goes well for Jillie and she is home soon. Please let us know how she is when you are able. |
Praying for Miss Jillie.... |
I am so sorry...dreadfully awful. Not knowing what happened is a killer, too. I had a kitty that suddenly looked like someone tried to cut one leg off the way you would cut a thigh off a turkey at Thanksgiving. We never did figure out how it happened, but she had a huge cut. Never found any blood anywhere either. She has not even a scar now, but I understand the frustration of not knowing how to prevent another injury. Hoping all goes well for Jilly at the vet. |
Just checking to see how Jillie is doing. Thoughts are with her today. Hugs |
Checking in to see Jillie is doing? I pray all is going well with her. |
Hi Mike, just checking to see how Jilly is doing today...hope all is well. |
Just seeing this thread. I am so very sorry that little Jillie is going to lose part of her ear. Sending healing  your way. I wonder if she got a small nick in her ear and picked up some sort of bad bacteria or fungus that caused the top of her ear to die. I just can't imagine Jillie having a significant ear injury and you not seeing it. |
1 Attachment(s) Thanks for your concern, everyone. Jillie now officially has 1 1/2 ears. :( I\'m accepting nicknames. Vet put her under for a dental today, and I had her remove the bad tip of the ear at the same time. She said it almost fell off. To add insult to injury, she also had three teeth removed. :( I guess Dad better start doing a better job brushing. Her 2 year checkup was nearly perfect, but at 4 the vet said she had three very loose teeth. Good news is recovery time for the ear is just a couple days. She put some dissolving stitches in there, but she expects the wound to heal quickly. I\'m still at a loss as to cause and when it happened. After scouring hundreds of photos taken since the 3/22 grooming, I know for certain that it was healthy the day before the grooming. Then I inexplicably have no telling pictures until 3/29, and that shows some darkness at the top of the right ear and probable damage. I called the groomer today, and they professed to being as surprised as I am. They said they neither noticed any damage to her ear beforehand or admitted to any nicks while grooming. I certainly can\'t prove otherwise. I\'m reluctantly going to switch groomers. Reluctant because their price was good and the home office is just three blocks from where I live. But this was the second thing with them that made me scratch my head and wonder. The first was a wart on Eddie\'s nose several months that I told them to avoid. When I picked him up, it was bleeding and they told me he must have nicked it while in his crate. It\'s entirely possible they are 100 percent innocent, but I don\'t think I could ever be comfortable leaving them there again. GRAPHIC WARNING -- Attached is a picture of what\'s left of Jillie\'s ear. It was still raw after the surgery. |
