Mimi is 7 years young & sometimes she won't go up & down the stairs by herself. She'll stand by the staircase & whine & I'll help her go up/down one & she'll go up/down the rest of the way. When nobody is downstairs, she'll come up on her own, so sometimes I think she just does it to be a baby loll!

It used to be that Piccolo whined at the bottom of the steps, especially when we took the carpet off and had the hardwood redone. Honestly, it was causing so many problems for our dogs that we had new wall-to-wall carpet put back on those very steps. (What we do for our pups. ) So, she had been going up and down independently after a few tries of practicing on the first step and getting her started, such as you described. Then, for her to start whining to be carried up again made me think she was in pain. I have to admit that Robert and I did discuss whether we thought she was trying to be a princess and get attention/be carried. But, decided it was probably pain. She appears to be doing better, but did whine once today to be carried. Anyway, thanks for sharing!

B4 we moved, we had carpeting on the stairs, so she went up/down on her own all the time. Now, we have laminate flooring throughout including the stairs & Mimi was scared of going up/down by herself. So my dad installed a runner for the stairs & I had to train Mimi to go up/down on her own. The very 1st step & last, she won't do by herself bc the floor is laminate, probably still slippery. One day, I was upstairs & she was downstairs by herself (I was going to go down in a few mins) but she came up on her own! I was so surprised, so I went back down w/her & came up again. Peeked around the stair case when she wasn't looking & I saw her go up like a baby, her front legs were up & she lifted one of her hind leg very carefully & lifted herself up loll! I hope Piccolo continues to do well, give her gentle kisses from us!

I have started to think that starting from the bottom is hard for Piccolo because it is wood and she cannot get a good start, just like you described. Hopefully, she will get back to normal on this. That is sweet that you peeked around the corner and saw Mimi on the steps.

| Hello everyone, I m new to YT, happy to be here. Easy to see why you all are so crazy over these little ones with the big hearts! I fell SO hard for my little guy - Macchiato. I Love him to pieces! He's 14 weeks old but constipated - kinda - or straining - has been only on kibble - help! I hate to see him with such a desperate look and all I can do is hold him and rock him and try to help out with baths, warmth, etc. Advice welcome.... ps: gave him moist food today |

| X-rays of the spine and hips and joints can tell if there is degenerative arthritic changes in the joints. You probably would need to go to an orthopedist for careful reading of the small joints for x-ray evidence of DJD, particularly those of the tiny spine.

| Oops! My appology - you are in the sick/ injured thread! Just seemed like the conversation was not focused on your question. Maybe if you started a new thread under the sick/injured forum you would get more responses. I'm not experienced in the constipation issue so cant be of much help to you. I am somewhat dismayed that your vet has not helped you. Severe constipation can be a major health issue and very uncomfortable, and can lead to some serious problems. I would recommend that you find a vet right away for your baby!
